Tuning of Microenvironment in Covalent Organic Framework via Fluorination Strategy promotes Selective CO Capture. | LitMetric

AI Article Synopsis

Article Abstract

Herein, we have designed and synthesized two heteroatom (N, O) rich covalent organic frameworks (COF), PD-COF and TF-COF, respectively, to demonstrate their relative effect on CO adsorption capacity and also CO /N selectivity. Compared to the non-fluorinated PD-COF (BET surface area 805 m  g , total pore volume 0.3647 ccg ), a decrease in BET surface area and also pore volume have been observed for fluorinated TF-COF due to the incorporation of fluorine to the porous framework (BET surface area 451 m  g , total pore volume 0.2978 ccg ). This fact leads to an enormous decrease in the CO adsorption capacity and CO /N selectivity of TF-COF, though it shows stronger affinity towards CO with a Qst of 37.76 KJ/mol. The more CO adsorption capacity by PD-COF can be attributed to the large specific surface area with considerable amount of micropore volume compared to the TF-COF. Further, PD-COF exhibited CO /N selectivity of 16.8, higher than that of TF-COF (CO /N selectivity 13.4).

Real-world data are a highly valuable resource in determining the efficacy of novel products in challenging populations, especially in wound care. This study retrospectively analyzed the real-world performance of porcine placental extracellular matrix (PPECM; InnovaMatrix® AC, Convatec Triad Life Sciences, LLC, Memphis, TN, USA), a novel cellular, acellular, and matrix-like product for the management of hard-to-heal wounds. The US Wound Registry (USWR), which comprises aggregated and structured electronic health records from 502 wound practices, provided a deidentified dataset collected from October 10, 2022 to March 25, 2024, containing 76,278 patients (248,278 wounds).

A negatively charged region within carboxy-terminal domain maintains proper CTCF DNA binding.

As an essential regulator of higher-order chromatin structures, CCCTC-binding factor (CTCF) is a highly conserved protein with a central DNA-binding domain of 11 tandem zinc fingers (ZFs), which are flanked by amino (N-) and carboxy (C-) terminal domains of intrinsically disordered regions. Here we report that CRISPR deletion of the entire C-terminal domain of alternating charge blocks decreases CTCF DNA binding but deletion of the C-terminal fragment of 116 amino acids results in increased CTCF DNA binding and aberrant gene regulation. Through a series of genetic targeting experiments, in conjunction with electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA), circularized chromosome conformation capture (4C), qPCR, chromatin immunoprecipitation with sequencing (ChIP-seq), and assay for transposase-accessible chromatin with sequencing (ATAC-seq), we uncovered a negatively charged region (NCR) responsible for weakening CTCF DNA binding and chromatin accessibility.

Introduction: Automatic segmentation of the left atrium (LA) constitutes a crucial pre-processing step in evaluating heart structure and function during clinical interventions, such as image-guided radiofrequency ablation of atrial fibrillation. Despite prior research on LA segmentation, the low contrast in medical images exacerbates the challenge of distinguishing various tissues, rendering accurate boundary delineation of the target area formidable. Moreover, class imbalance due to the small target size further complicates segmentation.

The use of metal oxide catalysts to enhance plasma CO reduction has seen significant recent development towards processes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and produce renewable chemical feedstocks. While plasma reactors are effective at producing the intended chemical transformations, the conditions can result in catalyst degradation. Atomic layer deposition (ALD) can be used to synthesize complex, hierarchically structured metal oxide plasma catalysts that, while active for plasma CO reduction, are potentially vulnerable to degradation due to their high surface area and nanoscopic thickness.

This study compares magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles synthesized using Aspergillus elegans extract versus commercially available magnetite nanoparticles, focusing on their efficacy in dye degradation. The biosynthesis of Fe3O4 nanoparticles using fungal extracts offers a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to conventional chemical methods. The nanoparticles were characterized using various techniques, including UV-Vis spectroscopy, XRD, FTIR, SEM, TEM, DLS, zeta potential, and VSM analysis, to assess their structural, morphological, and magnetic properties.
