Background: Recent advancements in virtual reality (VR) and biofeedback (BF) technologies have opened new avenues for breathing training. Breathing training has been suggested as an effective means for mental disorders, but it is difficult to master the technique at the beginning. VR-BF technologies address the problem of breathing, and visualizing breathing may facilitate the learning of breathing training.

Healthcare professionals can be sources of stigma for people with mental illness. Ambulance personnel are often the first healthcare providers that people with mental illness encounter during physical and mental health crises and their attitudes may be influenced by misconceptions and stereotyping views. This study aimed to assess the attitudes of ambulance personnel toward people with mental illness using the Opening Minds Stigma Scale for Health Care Providers (OMS-HC) and to evaluate its psychometric properties.

As recently as the 1980s, it was not uncommon for paediatric surgeons to operate on infants without anaesthesia. Today, the same omission would be considered criminal malpractice, and there is an increased concern with the possibility of consciousness in the earliest stage of human infancy. This concern reflects a more general trend that has characterised science since the early 1990s of taking consciousness seriously.
