Cisplatin is an effective chemotherapeutic drug against tumors. Studies often report on the improvement of kidney injury by probiotics or short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs); however, the effects of SCFAs on cisplatin-induced kidney injury are rarely studied. The aim of this study is to evaluate the function of sodium acetate on preventing cisplatin-induced kidney injury. Cell viability was detected by MTT assay. SA-β-gal staining was performed to investigate premature senescence. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) production was analyzed by HDCFDA staining. Propidium iodide (PI) staining was analyzed by cell cycle. Protein expression was determined by Western blot assay. Annexin Ⅴ/PI staining was used to investigate cisplatin-induced apoptosis. Tumor growth and kidney injury were evaluated in C57BL/6 mice. Sodium acetate ameliorated cisplatin-induced premature senescence and ROS production in SV40 MES-13 glomerular cells, NRK-52E renal tubular cells, and NRK-49F renal fibroblast cells. Cisplatin-induced cell cycle arrest was inhibited by sodium acetate in SV40 MES-13 and NRK-49F cells. Sodium acetate alleviated cisplatin-induced apoptosis in vivo and in vitro but not cisplatin-induced fibrosis. Our study demonstrated that sodium acetate inhibited cisplatin-induced premature senescence, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis by attenuating ROS production. This strategy may be useful in the treatment of cisplatin-induced kidney injury.

In this work, selenium (IV) ions were adsorbed from aqueous solutions by the strongly basic anion exchange resin Amberlite IRA-400. The morphology of the resin before and after Se(IV) sorption was investigated using different techniques such as energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). To determine the ideal sorption conditions, a batch approach was used to examine the variables affecting Se(IV) sorption performance, including pH, shaking time, adsorbent dosage, initial metal ion concentration, and temperature.

Lactic acid bacteria (LAB), traditionally consumed as fermented foods, are now being applied to the medical field beyond health-functional food as probiotics. Therefore, it is necessary to continuously discover and evaluate new strains with suitable probiotic characteristics, mainly focusing on safety. In this study, we isolated eight new strains from postmenopausal vaginal fluid using culturomics approaches, an emerging area of interest.

Cellulose acetate butyrate is a biodegradable cellulose ester bioplastic produced from plentiful natural plant-based resources. Solvent-exchange-induced in situ gels are particularly promising for periodontitis therapy, as this dosage form allows for the direct delivery of high concentrations of antimicrobial agents to the localized periodontal pocket. This study developed an in situ gel for periodontitis treatment, incorporating a combination of metronidazole and doxycycline hyclate, with cellulose acetate butyrate serving as the matrix-forming agent.

A convenient, rapid, and environmentally friendly method, emulsive liquid-liquid microextraction combined with high-performance liquid chromatography, was established to determine phthalic acid esters in tap, river, lake, and sea water. After the method's optimization, we obtained the appropriate volume of the extractant and pure water, the number of strokes, the separation methods, the mass volume fraction of the demulsifier, the demulsifier volume, the sample volume, the salt amount, and the pH conditions. This method requires only 200 μL of heptanoic acid (fatty acid) as the extractant and 75 mg of sodium acetate as demulsifiers for fast microextraction and separation, respectively, avoiding the use of further equipment.

Considering the demand for organosulfur materials and the challenges associated with currently used oxidation processes, in this study, we evaluated the counter-cation of sodium chlorite (Na+ClO2-) with tetrabutylammonium chloride (Bu4N+Cl-) to synthesise tetrabutylammonium chlorite (Bu4N+ClO2-). Bu4N+ClO2- exhibited good solubility in organic solvents like chloroform (1.6 g mL-1) and ethyl acetate (0.
