The seismic damage state of building structure can be rapidly evaluated by coupling effect of structural displacement response and periodic characteristics. Firstly, the fundamental period calculation formula that adapts to the deformation pattern and distribution mode of horizontal seismic action for reinforced concrete frame structure is derived. Secondly, the seismic damage assessment standard of building structure considering period variation is established. Then, the seismic damage assessment method of building structure is constructed. Finally, the seismic damage example is used to verify the established evaluation method. The results show that the established research method has high accuracy and good engineering practicability.

Civil engineering structures are subject to both static and dynamic loadings. This applies especially to buildings in seismic areas as well as bridges, viaducts, and road and railway structures loaded with road or rail traffic. One of the solutions used to repair and strengthen such structures in the event of emergency damage are fibre-reinforced polyurethanes (FRPUs).

Aftershocks can cause additional damage or even lead to the collapse of structures already weakened by a mainshock. Scarcity of in-situ recorded aftershock accelerograms heightens the need to develop synthetic aftershock ground motions. These synthesized motions are crucial for assessing the cumulative seismic demand on structures subjected to mainshock-aftershock sequences.

In this study, two novel hybrid intelligent models were developed to evaluate the short-term rockburst using the random forest (RF) method and two meta-heuristic algorithms, whale optimization algorithm (WOA) and coati optimization algorithm (COA), for hyperparameter tuning. Real-time predictive models of this phenomenon were created using a database comprising 93 case histories, taking into account various microseismic parameters. The results indicated that the WOA achieved the highest overall performance in hyperparameter tuning for the RF model, outperforming the COA.

This study demonstrates that machine learning from seismograms, obtained from commonly deployed seismometers, can identify the early stages of slope failure in the field. Landslide hazards negatively impact the economy and public through disruption, damage of infrastructure and even loss of life. Triggering factors leading to landslides are broadly understood, typically associated with rainfall, geological conditions and steep topography.

The objective of this paper is to develop assessment models to quantitatively evaluate the seismic damage caused to resilient concrete columns intended for buildings located in strong-earthquake-prone regions such as Japan and China. The proposed damage assessment models are based on the fractal analysis of crack patterns on the surface of damaged concrete columns and expressed in the form of a fractal dimension (FD) versus transient drift ratio relationship. To calibrate the proposed damage assessment models, a total of eighty images of crack patterns for eight concrete columns were utilized.
