A new series of 1,3,5-trisubstituted 2-pyrazoline derivatives (3a-l) are synthesized in good to excellent yields from the corresponding chalcones (1a-h) and acid hydrazides (2a-e) in polyethylene glycol-400 (PEG-400) as a green reaction medium. The newly synthesized 2-pyrazoline derivatives are screened for their antibacterial and antifungal activity. The synthesized trisubstituted pyrazolines displayed moderate to good antibacterial and antifungal properties as compared with the standard reference penicillin and fluconazole drugs. Additionally, the antioxidant potential of the 1,3,5-trisubstituted 2-pyrazolines is evaluated by OH and DPPH assay. The 1,3,5-trisubstituted 2-pyrazolines showed good radical scavenger activity and were found as good antioxidant agents.

Porcine blood, a significant byproduct of the pork industry, represents a potential source of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). AMPs offer a promising alternative to chemical antimicrobials, which can be used as natural preservatives in the food industry. AMPs can exhibit both antibacterial and/or antifungal properties, thus improving food safety and addressing the growing concern of antibiotic and antifungal resistance.

The present study aimed to investigate the ability of an aqueous extract derived from mustard seed meal to counteract the effects of endotoxin lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on the intestinal epithelium. Caco-2 cells were cultured together with HT29-MTX and used as a cellular model to analyze critical intestinal parameters, such as renewal, integrity, innate immunity, and signaling pathway. Byproducts of mustard seed oil extraction are rich in soluble polysaccharides, proteins, allyl isothiocyanates, and phenolic acids, which are known as powerful antioxidants with antimicrobial and antifungal properties.

Leishmaniasis, a neglected tropical disease caused by species, presents serious public health challenges due to limited treatment options, toxicity, high costs, and drug resistance. In this study, the in vitro potential of malvidin and echioidinin is examined as antileishmanial agents against , , and , comparing their effects to amphotericin B (AmpB), a standard drug. Malvidin demonstrated greater potency than echioidinin across all parasite stages and species.

The synthetic availability and wide range of biological activity of hydrazides and hydrazones make them attractive subjects for investigation. In this study, we focused on synthesis of 2-methyl-5-nitro-6-phenylnicotinohydrazide-based hydrazones derived from the corresponding substituted aldehydes. The structure of the obtained compounds was studied using NMR spectroscopy and DFT calculations.

We previously examined the antitumor effects of short interfering RNA nanoparticles targeting mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) in an orthotopic pancreatic cancer mouse model. We herein report the inhibitory effects of the mTOR inhibitor rapamycin on tumor growth in a novel established mouse model of pancreatic cancer using human pancreatic cancer cell line-derived organoids. Gemcitabine, 5-fluorouracil, and gemcitabine plus nab-paclitaxel are clinically used to treat advanced pancreatic cancer.
