Metabolomics is an essential method to study the dynamic changes of metabolic networks and products using modern analytical techniques, as well as reveal the life phenomena and their inherent laws. Currently, more and more attention has been paid to the development of metabolic histochemistry in the fungus field. This paper reviews the application of metabolomics in fungal research from five aspects: identification, response to stress, metabolite discovery, metabolism engineering, and fungal interactions with plants.

The use of cell culture techniques to model human disease is an indispensable tool that has helped improve the health and well-being of the world. Monolayer cultures have most often been used for biomedical research, although not accurately recapitulating an in vivo human tumor. Tumor spheroids are a form of three-dimensional cell culture that better mimics an avascularized human tumor through their cell-cell contacts in all directions, development of various chemical gradients, and distinct populations of cells found within the spheroid.

Introduction: Aqueous stem bark extracts of Aspidosperma rigidum Rusby, Couroupita guianensis Aubl., Monteverdia laevis (Reissek) Biral, and Protium sagotianum Marchand have been reported as traditional remedies in several countries of the Amazonian region. Despite previous research, further investigation to characterize secondary metabolites and the biological activity of extracts is needed to derive potential applications.

Accurate and rapid diagnosis of traumatic brain injury (TBI) is essential for high-quality medical services. Nonetheless, the current diagnostic platform still has challenges in rapidly and accurately analysing clinical samples. Here, we prepared a highly stable, repeatable and sensitive gold-plated silver core-shell nanowire (Ag@AuNWs) for surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) metabolic fingerprint diagnosis of TBI.

Pectin is an acidic heteropolysaccharide with natural, green, and inexpensive characteristics. Compared to polysaccharides, oligosaccharides are more easily utilized by the body, and the physiological function of hawthorn pectin oligosaccharides (POS) may vary depending on their degree of polymerization (DP). Therefore, we mainly studied the effects of hawthorn pectin (HP) and POS with different DP on gut microbiota disorders induced by high-fat diet (HFD).

Coral reefs are hotspots of marine biodiversity, which results in the synthesis of a wide variety of compounds with unique molecular scaffolds, and bioactivities, rendering reefs an ecosystem of interest. The chemodiversity stems from the intricate relationships between inhabitants of the reef, as the chemistry produced partakes in intra- and interspecies communication, settlement, nutrient acquisition, and defense. However, the coral reefs are declining at an unprecedented rate due to climate change, pollution, and increased incidence of pathogenic diseases.
