Conversion of hazardous compounds to value-added chemicals using clean energy possesses massive industrial interest. This applies especially to the hazardous compounds that are frequently released in daily life. In this work, a S-scheme photocatalyst is optimized by rational loading of carbon quantum dots (CQDs) during the synthetic process. As a bridge, the presence of CQDs between TiO and CdInS improves the electron extraction from TiO and supports the charge transport in S-scheme. Thanks to this, the TiO/CQDs/CdInS presents outstanding photoactivity in converting the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) released by cigarette to value-added benzaldehyde. The optimized photocatalyst performs 87.79% conversion rate and 72.76% selectivity in 1 h reaction under a simulated solar source, as confirmed by FT-IR and GC-MS. A combination of experiments and theoretical calculations are conducted to demonstrate the role of CQDs in TiO/CQDs/CdInS toward photocatalysis.

Bioimaging probes based on carbon dots (CDs) can become a useful replacement for existing commercial probes, benefiting clinical diagnostics. While the development of dual-mode CD-based probes for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which provides the ability for photoluminescence (PL) detection at the same time, is ongoing, several challenges have to be addressed. First, most of the CD-based probes still emit at shorter wavelengths (blue/green spectral range), which is harmful to biological objects or have very low PL intensity in the biological window of tissue transparency (red/near-infrared spectral range).

A colorimetric-fluorescence ripeness indicator, based on copper nanoparticles and carbon quantum dots doped with nitrogen (CuNPs/N@CQD) immobilized in agar hydrogel (AGH-CuNPs/N@CQDs) for ethylene gas detection, was developed for detecting the ripening of bananas. Ethylene could reduce the fluorescence intensity of CuNPs/N@CQDs and cause a red shift of the LSPR peak. The prepared AGH-CuNPs/N@CQDs indicator had an irreversible response to ethylene with LOD and LOQ of 9.

Context: This study presents quantum chemical analysis of 14 distinct carbon-based nanostructures (CBN), ranging from simple molecules, like benzene, to more complex structures, such as coronene, which serves as an exemplary graphene-like model. The investigation focuses on elucidating the relationships between molecular orbital (MO) energies, the energy band gaps, electron occupation numbers (eON), electronic conduction, and the compound topologies, seeking to find the one that approaches most of a graphene-like structure for in silico studies. Through detailed examination of molecular properties including chemical hardness and chemical potential, we demonstrate that the electronic exchange between orbitals is directly influenced by the structural topology of the carbon-based nanostructures, as the electron occupation numbers and the molecular orbital energies.

Fluorescent nitrogen-doped carbon dots (N-GQDs) with long-wavelength emission properties are of increased interest for technological applications. They are widely synthesized through the solvothermal treatment of graphene oxide (GO) using ,-dimethylformamide (DMF) as a cleaving and doping agent. However, this process simultaneously generates undesired interfering blue-emissive by-products.

In the current investigation, the efficiency inhibition of two newly synthesized bi-pyrazole derivatives, namely 2,3-bis[(bis((1 H-pyrazol-1-yl) methyl) amino)] pyridine (Tetra-Pz-Ortho) and 1,4-bis[(bis((1 H-pyrazol-1-yl) methyl) amino)] benzene (Tetra-Pz-Para) for corrosion of carbon steel (C&S) in 1 M HCl medium was evaluated. A Comparative study of inhibitor effect of Tetra-Pz-Ortho and Tetra-Pz-Para was conducted first using weight loss method and EIS (Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy) and PDP (Potentiodynamic Polarisation) techniques. Tetra-Pz-Ortho and Tetra-Pz-Para had a maximum inhibition efficacy of 97.
