Significant advances have been made in the morphological observations of the dorsal gland (DG), an oval organ/tissue which lies on both sides of the dorsal midline of the crocodilian. In the current study, RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) was used to identify the changing patterns of DGs at different timepoints from the 31st embryonic day (E31) to the newly hatched 1st day (NH1). A comprehensive transcriptional changes of differentially expression gene (DEGs) involved in the melanogenesis, cholesterol metabolism, and cell apoptosis pathways suggested that the DG might serves as a functional secretory gland in formation, transport and deposition of pigment, and lipids secretion via lysosomal exocytosis. Furthermore, the remarkable immunohistochemical staining of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) and B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2)-positive signals in the basilar cells, in parallel with the immuno-reactive TdT-mediated dUTP nick-End labeling(TUNEL) within suprabasal cells, provided direct molecular evidence supporting for the speculation that DG serves as a holocrine secretion mode. Finally, subsequent phylogenetic and immunohistochemical analysis for the PITX2, the identified DEGs in the RNA-seq, was helpful to further elucidate the transcriptional regulatory mechanism of candidate genes. In conclusion, the current results are of considerable importance in enriching our understanding of the intrinsic relationship between the skin derivatives and lifestyles of newborn .

Dry eye disease (DED) is often seen in patients with polyneuropathies (PNs), but the relationship between the different forms of PNs and DED is not known. In oxaliplatin (Ox-)-treated mice with PNs, morphological changes in the sciatic nerve (SN), dorsal root ganglia (DRG), trigeminal ganglia (TG), and the ocular tissues involved in tear formation were investigated. In addition, the tear proteomics and the gene expression of related proteins in the ocular surface tissues as well as inflammatory factors were analyzed.

Scaled integument of six species of the genus and , family Agamidae was studied using light and scanning electron microscopy. Gross observation revealed the presence of two types of modified scales in the males. The enlarged scales covered with an extremely thick -corneous layer were detected in the dorsal and ventral surfaces of the tail base and on the palmar and plantar limb surfaces of all species.

Under homeostatic conditions, haematopoiesis in Drosophila larvae occurs in the lymph gland and sessile haemocyte clusters to produce two functionally and morphologically different cells: plasmatocytes and crystal cells. It is well-established that in the lymph gland both cell types stem from a binary decision of the medullary prohaemocyte precursors. However, in sessile clusters and dorsal vessel, crystal cells have been shown to originate from the transdifferentiation of plasmatocytes in a Notch/Serrate-dependent manner.

This study is the first attempt to describe the morphological features of the sublingual and subpharyngeal floor, beak, and palate of the Egyptian ISA Brown Hen using gross and SEM examinations. The rostral part of the lower beak, not occupied by the tongue, was organized into three areas: rostral papillary-teeth-like, non-ridged, and ridged. The sublingual part has a median ridge and two sublingual gland openings; the large round openings are along the ridge, while the small ovoid openings are along each half.
