Background: Inhalation exposure is the gold standard when assessing pulmonary toxicity. However, it typically requires substantial amounts of test material. Intratracheal instillation is an alternative administration technique, where the test substance is suspended in a liquid vehicle and deposited into the lung via the trachea.

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a complex disorder with a high degree of interindividual variability. Gastrointestinal dysfunction is common in patients with COPD and has been proposed to influence the clinical progression of the disease. Using the presence of bile acid(s) (BA) in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid as a marker of gastric aspiration, we evaluated the relationships between BAs, clinical outcomes and bacterial lung colonisation.

Background: Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) periprosthetic infections after breast augmentation procedures are increasingly common worldwide and should raise suspicion after empirical antimicrobial therapy fails but clinical signs of infection persist. In this case experience, the authors suggest the use of negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) for NTM-infected wounds to obtain a faster periprosthetic space closure, shorten healing time, and anticipate breast reimplantation.
Case Report: This case report describes the successful application of NPWT to manage wound healing after breast removal in a 60-year-old female who underwent secondary breast augmentation 7 years before.

Diagnosis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) currently relies on imaging; however, these methods are not effective for detecting early stage disease. Investigating blood-based protein biomarkers aims to simplify the diagnostic process and identify disease-associated changes before they can be seen by using imaging techniques. In this study, plasma and frozen whole blood cell pellets from NSCLC patients and healthy controls were processed using both classical and novel techniques to produce a unique set of four sample types from a single blood draw.
