Background: Changes in the Alzheimer's disease-related apolipoprotein genes expression, occurring parallel with brain ischemia-induced neurodegeneration in the hippocampal CA3 area, may be crucial for the development of memory loss and dementia.

Objective: The aim of the study was to investigate changes in genes expression of () () and () in CA3 area post-ischemia with survival of 2 years.

Methods: The gene expression was evaluated with the use of an RT-PCR protocol after 2, 7, and 30 days and 6, 12, 18, and 24 months post-ischemia.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a multifactorial disorder, and there is growing evidence of immunological involvement in its pathogenesis. To address this, we aimed to identify biomarker candidates related to retinal antigens in patients with neovascular AMD treated with ranibizumab and healthy subjects. This study was designed as a prospective, open, parallel-group, interventional, single-center phase IV trial.

Chronic pressure overload induces adverse cardiac remodelling characterised by left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy and fibrosis, leading to heart failure (HF). Identification of new biomarkers for adverse cardiac remodelling enables us to better understand this process and, consequently, to prevent HF. We recently identified clusterin (CLU) as a biomarker of cardiac remodelling and HF after myocardial infarction.

Department of Clinical Sciences Lund, Division of Neurosurgery, Department of Neurosurgery, Lund University and Skane University Hospital, Lund, Sweden.

Background: Emerging data suggest a complex pathophysiology of chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) to which an inflammatory response might contribute. The complement system is activated in acute traumatic setting, although its role in CSDH is unknown. To investigate the complement system in CSDH pathophysiology, we analyzed blood and hematoma fluid biomarkers, as well as immunohistochemistry of the CSDH membrane and dura.

Benzene is a crucial industrial hydrocarbon, posing significant health risks due to its toxic metabolites like hydroquinone (HQ). This study investigates the role of clusterin (CLU) in benzene toxicity by analyzing its protein and mRNA levels, as well as the expression of Bcl-2 and Bax, to evaluate the feasibility of CLU as a biomarker for chronic benzene poisoning. HL-60 cells were induced to differentiate into neutrophil-like cells using 1% Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO).
