Although the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) robustly encodes value during preference decisions, it also encodes multiple non-value features of choice options. The role of this information, and its relationship to the options' overall value remain open questions. In this opinion, we attempt to disentangle oft-studied categories of option information - identity and attributes - in the context of both classic theories of economic choice and contradicting evidence of choice biases in multi-attribute decisions. In doing so, we aim to set forth considerations for understanding the wide variety of decision-relevant information encoded by the OFC during preference decisions.

Background: The 2019 ASCCP Risk-Based Management Consensus Guidelines prefer expedited treatment, defined as proceeding to excisional treatment without first performing colposcopic biopsy, for patients with screening results indicating a high risk of cervical precancer. In this mixed methods study, we explored clinician attitudes toward expedited treatment.

Methods: In 2021, a national sample of 671 clinicians who performed colposcopy completed surveys; a subset (n = 41) of clinicians who performed colposcopy and/or directed patient treatment completed qualitative interviews.

Introduction: Achieving an early diagnosis of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) in pulmonary embolism (PE) survivors results in better quality of life and survival. Importantly, dedicated follow-up strategies to achieve an earlier CTEPH diagnosis involve costs that were not explicitly incorporated in the models assessing their cost-effectiveness. We performed an economic evaluation of 11 distinct PE follow-up algorithms to determine which should be preferred.

Patient centered medication treatment for opioid use disorder in rural Vermont: a qualitative study.

Addict Sci Clin Pract

January 2025

Center for Technology and Behavioral Health, Geisel School of Medicine, Dartmouth College, Lebanon, NH, 03766, USA.

Background: Opioid-related fatal overdoses are occurring at historically high levels and increasing each year. Accessible social and financial support are imperative to the initiation and success of treatment for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) offer effective treatment but there are many more people with untreated OUD than receiving evidence-based medication.

Background: Virtual care (VC) for dementia in primary care settings is an important aspect of healthcare delivery in Canada. However, the evidence informing optimal and sustainable provision of VC for persons living with dementia (PLWD) and their care partners is scarce. The objectives of this study were to (1) describe the frequency of VC use, (2) identify characteristics of PLWD, care partners, and family physicians (FPs) that are associated with the use of VC, and (3) explore FPs' perceptions of barriers and facilitators to provide VC for PLWD and their care partners.
