In the title compound, CHFNO, the mean planes of the indole ring systems are approximately perpendicular to one another [dihedral angle = 88.3 (4)°]. The benzene ring is twisted with respect to the indole ring systems by 49.8 (5) and 77.6 (3)°. In the crystal, pairs of N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into the inversion dimers which are further linked into supra-molecular chains propagating along the [110] direction.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) poses a significant public health issue. Despite the fact that today there are several methods of maintenance therapy, one of the most widely used methods is designed to correct the deficiency of acetylcholine. In the search for new potential inhibitors of cholinesterase enzymes, eight new derivatives of 3-oxo- or 2,3-indolo-triterpenic acid conjugated with amino-quinuclidine bicyclic cores were designed and synthesized.

The asymmetric unit of the title compound is composed of one host mol-ecule, -4-(1 ,5 -3-aza-1,5(3,9)-dicarbazola-cyclo-octa-phane-3-yl)benzo-nitrile and one di-chloro-methane solvate mol-ecule, CHN·CHCl. The host mol-ecule possesses a planar chirality but crystallizes as a racemate in the space group 2/. It adopts an -configuration, in which two carbazole rings are partially overlapped with a parallel orientation.
