In the title compound, CHN, the mean planes of the pendant benzene rings are approximately perpendicular to one another, making a dihedral angle of 79.3 (5)°; the indeno-[1,2-]quinoxaline ring system (r.m.s. deviation = 0.1197 Å) is twisted with respect to the pendant benzene rings by 70.0 (4) and 67.6 (3)°. Weak aromatic π-π stacking [centroid-centroid separation = 3.628 (2) Å] and C-H⋯π inter-actions occur in the crystal.

Metal-organic frameworks generated from oligomeric ligands with functionalized tethers.

Chem Sci

December 2024

Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of California, San Diego La Jolla California 92093 USA

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) can be prepared from oligomeric organic ligands to prepare materials referred to as oligoMOFs. Studies of oligoMOFs are relatively limited, with most existing reports focused on fundamental structure-property relationships. In this report, functional groups, such as terminal alkynes and pyridine groups, are installed on the tether between 1,4-benzene dicarboxylic acid (Hbdc) groups of the dimer ligands.

Long-Lived Triplets from Singlet Fission in Pentacene-Decorated Helical Supramolecular Polymers.

Institute for Complex Molecular Systems and Laboratory of Macromolecular and Organic Chemistry, Eindhoven University of Technology, 5600 MB Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

Singlet fission (SF), which involves the conversion of a singlet excited state into two triplet excitons, holds great potential to boost the efficiency of photovoltaics. However, losses due to triplet-triplet annihilation hamper the efficient harvesting of SF-generated triplet excitons, which limits an effective implementation in solar energy conversion schemes. A fundamental understanding of the underlying structure-property relationships is thus crucial to define design principles for cutting-edge SF materials, yet it remains elusive.

pH-Responsive self-assembled polymer-photosensitizer conjugate for activable photodynamic therapy.

Nanoscale

October 2024

School of Applied and Interdisciplinary Sciences, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, 2A and 2B Raja S. C. Mullick Road, Kolkata, 700032, India.

This paper reports synthesis, aqueous self-assembly and relevance of the pH-triggered activable photodynamic therapy of amphiphilic polyurethane (P1S) functionalized with a heavy-atom free organic photosensitizer. Condensation polymerization between 1,4-diisocyanatobutane and two different dihydroxy monomers (one having a pendant hydrophilic wedge and the other having 1,3-dihydroxypropan-2-one with a reactive carbonyl group) in the presence of a measured amount of ()-2-methylbutan-1-ol (chain-stopper) and DABCO catalyst produces a reactive pre-polymer P1. Hydrazide-functionalized thionated-naphthalenemonoimide (NMIS), which acts as a photosensitizer, reacted with the carbonyl-functionality of P1 to obtain the desired polymer-photosensitizer conjugate P1S in which the dye was attached to the polymer backbone an acid-labile hydrazone linker.

Conjugated Nitroxide Radical Polymer with Low Temperature Tolerance Potential for High-Performance Organic Polymer Cathode.

J Am Chem Soc

August 2024

Center for Smart Materials and Devices, State Key Laboratory of Advanced Technology for Materials Synthesis and Processing, and School of Materials Science and Engineering, Wuhan University of Technology, Wuhan 430070, China.

Low-temperature operation poses a significant challenge for current commercial rechargeable lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Organic polymer electrode materials, exhibiting a nonintercalation redox mechanism, offer a viable solution to mitigate the decline in electrochemical performance at low temperatures in LIBs. Herein, a radical polymer P(DATPAPO-TPA) with a conjugated nitrogen-rich triphenylamine derivative as the backbone and high-density nitroxide pendants has been synthesized.
