Sudden mega natural gas leaks of two Nord Stream pipelines in the Baltic Sea (Denmark) occurred from late September to early October 2022, releasing large amounts of methane into the atmosphere. We inferred the methane emissions of this event based on surface in situ observations using two inversion methods and two meteorological reanalysis datasets, supplemented with satellite-based observations. We conclude that approximately 220 ± 30 Gg of methane was released from September 26 to October 1, 2022.

The study investigated the contribution of five potential point source categories on the occurrence of 19 highly hazardous perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) in freshwater from the Turin metropolitan area (Italy) and assessed the quality of groundwater and surface water in compliance with European and Italian guidelines. PFASs were revealed in 29 and 24 % of the investigated shallow (unconfined aquifers) and deep (semi- and confined aquifers) wells with a total concentration, as a sum (ΣPFASs), of 0.01-0.

Produced water (PW) is a significant byproduct of offshore oil and gas production, constituting a major waste stream in the North Sea. Existing regulations address only the dispersed aliphatic hydrocarbon content in PW, and limited attention is given to other potentially hazardous compounds, including benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylene (BTEX), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), phenols, water-soluble petroleum constituents as well as production-related chemicals. In this study, Danish oil production PW samples were subjected to purge and trap extraction on granular activated carbon for volatile compounds identification and quantification by GC-MS analysis.

Background: Poststroke aphasia (PSA) recovery shows high variability across individuals and at different time points. Although diffusion biomarkers from the ventral and dorsal streams have demonstrated strong predictive power for language outcomes, it is still unclear how these biomarkers relate to the various stages of PSA recovery. In this study, we aim to compare diffusion metrics and language measures as predictors of language recovery in a longitudinal cohort of participants with PSA.

Introduction: Patient-reported measures are an invaluable resource for health systems to improve the quality of healthcare services. Patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) are an under-represented group within the stream of literature on collecting and using the experiences and outcomes reported by patients to improve healthcare performance. This protocol outlines the methodology to implement a longitudinal survey in Tuscany, Italy, to systematically gather patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and patient-reported experience measures (PREMs) for patients with HCV, with a focus on the integration of primary and hospital care.

Patients are often diagnosed with advanced disease, in which systemic and locoregional therapies are commonly used as first-line treatment. Such treatments can cause adverse events (AEs) that negatively affect quality of life (QoL), which is particularly undesirable where prognosis is poor.
