Department of General Pediatric and infectious Disease, National Pediatric Hospital, Ministry of Health, Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Stroke ranks among the prevalent factors contributing to child mortality. Cryptogenic stroke has been linked with patent foramen ovale (PFO), which has been suggested as a possible route for thrombus, gas bubble, or another particulate that comes through systemic venous circulation to the brain artery. Yet, the most effective approach for managing cryptogenic stroke involving a PFO remains uncertain.

Pneumo-membranous labyrinth is an almost unique condition, in which air extends into the membranous labyrinth, filling the endolymphatic sac through the vestibular aqueduct. In this manuscript, we describe and discuss a case of pneumo-membranous labyrinth, with air bubbles extending also to the endolymphatic sac, resulting in anacusis, following hyperbaric oxygen therapy for sudden sensorineural hearing loss. The patient was successfully rehabilitated with a cochlear implant, obtaining a pure-tone average of 30 dB, with a speech discrimination score of 100% at 70 dB.

Bubbles-Induced Porous Structure-Based Flexible Piezoresistive Sensors for Speech Recognition.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

Institute of Biomedical Precision Testing and Instrumentation, College of Biomedical Engineering, Taiyuan University of Technology, Taiyuan 030024, China.

Flexible piezoresistive sensors with a porous structure that are used in the field of speech recognition are seldom characterized by both high sensitivity and ease of preparation. In this study, a piezoresistive sensor with a porous structure that is both highly sensitive and can be prepared by using a simple method is proposed for speech recognition. The preparation process utilizes the interaction of bubbles generated by ethanol evaporation and active agents with polydimethylsiloxane to produce a porous flexible substrate.

Department of Information and Communication Engineering, The University of Tokyo, Tokyo, 113-8656, Japan.

Comics are a bimodal form of art involving a mixture of text and images. Since comics require a combination of various cognitive processes to comprehend their contents, the analysis of human comic reading behavior sheds light on how humans process such bimodal forms of media. In this paper, we particularly focus on the viewing times of each comic panel as a quantitative measure of attention, and analyze the statistical characteristics of the distributions of comic panel viewing times.
