Neuropeptides are pivotal in regulating a broad spectrum of developmental, physiological, and behavioral processes throughout the life cycle of crustaceans. In this comprehensive study, we utilized a multiomics approach to characterize neuropeptide precursors and to assess the expression profiles of neuropeptide-encoding genes across various tissues and developmental stages in the Pacific white shrimp, . Additionally, we explored the differential expression of neuropeptide genes in the eyestalk before and after the RNA interference-mediated suppression of crustacean hyperglycemic hormone (CHH) and vitellogenesis-inhibiting hormone (VIH) gene expression.

In this study, we identified and its putative receptor from the mud crab and explored its potential role in ovarian development. RT-PCR results suggested was extensively expressed in nervous tissues, the ovary, the middle gut, and the Y-organ, while was highly expressed in the ovary. The expression level of in the ovary, eyestalk, and cerebral ganglia gradually increased during ovarian development, whereas its receptor exhibited an opposite expression pattern in the ovary.

Lipid metabolism is essential to insect life as insects use lipids for their development, reproduction, flight, diapause, and a wide range of other functions. The central organ for insect lipid metabolism is the fat body, which is analogous to mammalian adipose tissue and liver, albeit less structured. Various other systems including the midgut, brain, and neural organs also contribute functionally to insect lipid metabolism.

As a typical G protein-coupled receptor, the adipokinetic hormone receptor (AKHR) has seven transmembrane domains (TMDs), and its structure and function are similar to the gonadotropin-releasing hormone receptor (GnRHR) in vertebrates. However, there is a dearth of information on other components of the AKHR signaling pathway and how it functions in the interaction between insect hosts and parasitoids.
