Background And Aim: This study evaluated the anxiolytic, antidepressant, and antioxidant activity of the methanol extract of (MECR) leaves, and determined the total phenolic and flavonoid contents in this extract.

Experimental Procedure: The anxiolytic effect of MECR (100, 200, 400 mg/kg, p. o.) was tested in mice using the elevated plus-maze (EPM) test, the hole-board test (HBT), and the light-dark box (LDB) test. Its antidepressant effect was evaluated in the tail suspension (TST) and the forced swim (FST) tests. The total phenolic (TPC) and flavonoid (TFC) content was measured using standard colorimetric assays. Antioxidant activity was determined using the DPPH radical scavenging and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assays.

Results And Conclusion: MECR, at all doses, showed dose-dependent anxiolytic activity. At 400 mg/kg, it significantly increased the time spent and number of entries in the open arms (EPM test), the number of head-dips (HBT), and the time spent into the light compartment (LDB) test compared to the control. In the TST and FST, MECR dose-dependently reduced the duration of immobility compared to untreated animals. This was significant for all doses except for 100 mg/kg in the FST model. MECR showed high TPC and TFC (90.94 ± 0.75 mg GAE/g and 51.54 ± 0.78 mg QE/g of dried extract, respectively) and displayed potent activity in the DPPH radical scavenging (IC = 177.82 μg/mL) and FRAP assays. These findings indicate that has the potential to alleviate anxiety and depression disorders, which merits further exploration.

Objective: Lung cancer is the primary cause of cancer-related deaths globally. Protein kinase B (AKT) protein is associated with many pathways in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), such as proliferation, migration, invasion, and apoptosis. Mushrooms have a long history of being used in traditional medicine to treat various diseases.

Bioactive Sulfonamides Derived from Amino Acids: Their Synthesis and Pharmacological Activities.

Mini Rev Med Chem

January 2025

Department of Physiology and Pharmacology Vittorio Erspamer, Sapienza University of Rome, 00161, Rome, Italy.

Currently, the synthesis of bioactive sulfonamides using amino acid as a starting reagent has become an area of research interest in organic chemistry. Over the years, an amine-sulfonyl chloride reaction has been adopted as a common step in traditional sulfonamide synthetic methods. However, recent developments have shown amino acids to be better precursors than amines in the synthesis of sulfonamides.

This study has developed a pressure sensor array based on four functionalized DNA-nanoenzymes with catalase-like activity for multiple detections of foodborne pathogens through a portable pressure manometer. Benefiting from functionalization of 4-mercaptophenylboronic acid and β-mercaptoethylamine, the diversity of nonspecific interactions between four DNA-nanoenzymes and each of the nine bacteria leads to differences in pressure response patterns by catalyzing HO to generate exclusive "fingerprints". As effective statistical tools for processing multivariate data, principal component analysis and hierarchical clustering analysis are employed to identify nine foodborne pathogens by analyzing pressure response patterns.

Phenolic compounds (PC) were analyzed by UHPLC-ESI-QTOF-MS in two sorghum genotypes, harvested in two growing seasons (GS) at five distinct days after flowering (DAF) to evaluate how genotype/GS influences the PC synthesis and antioxidant capacity during grain growth. Total phenolic contents were strongly correlated with antioxidant capacity ( > 0.9, < 0.

This study aimed to explore the mechanism by which Zn retards Fe toxicity by analyzing the morphological, photosynthetic, and chloroplast physiological parameters of wheat seedlings treated with either single or combined Zn and Fe. Different behavior of the seedlings was observed under untreated and treated conditions. The most discriminating quantitative traits were associated with leaf area, biomass dry mass and fresh mass, net photosynthetic rate, intercellular CO concentration, stomatal conductance, transpiration rate of seedlings, Hill reaction, Mg-ATPase and Ca-ATPase activities, malondialdehyde and O contents, and glutathione reductase, ascorbate peroxidase, peroxidase, and superoxide dismutase activities and their gene expression in the seedling chloroplast.
