Laboratory informative computer systems (LICS-10 and LICS-11) for microbiological assay of antibiotics were developed. The systems are based on the ISKRA-1256 computer. As compared to the routine method with the use of the well-known V. S. Dmitrieva's Tables the LICSs provide more than a 2-fold decrease in the working hours of the assay. The data on the specific software for the LICSs are presented and the algorithms for the calculations are described.

Almost 1 million Americans suffer from debilitative disorders or injuries to the hand, which result in decreased grip strength and/or impaired ability to hold objects. The objective of this study was to design and test the functioning of a fivedigit exoskeleton for the human hand that augments pinching and grasping efforts. The exoskeleton digits and the wrist and forearm structure was computer designed and 3-D printed using ABS plastic, while the housing for the control system, motors, and batteries was constructed from laser-cut acrylic.

The availability of microcomputer-based portable devices facilitates the high-volume multichannel biosignal acquisition and the analysis of their instantaneous oscillations and inter-signal temporal correlations. These new, non-invasively obtained parameters can have considerable prognostic or diagnostic roles. The present study investigates the inherent signal delay of the obligatory anti-aliasing filters.

ABSTRACT We investigated the use of computer-assisted image analysis techniques for the objective quantification of maize streak virus (MSV) symptoms in Zea mays. We compared independent duplicate evaluations of chlorotic lesion areas occurring on MSV-infected leaves using visual assessment, a commercial image analysis system, and a custom image analysis system employing software developed in our laboratory. Relative to visual assessments of disease severity, computer-assisted image analysis employing both the commercial and custom systems provided significant enhancements in the accuracy and precision of chlorotic area estimations.

A real-time video pattern generator for use in ophthalmology.

J Med Eng Technol

November 1999

Department of Computer Science, Monmouth University, W. Long Branch, NJ 07764, USA.

An automated real-time microcomputer-based video pattern generator for use in optometry and ophthalmology is presented. The system can generate various vision pattern tests including a static and dynamic random dot stereogram that can be used to test depth perception. The patterns are generated in real time, which provides the ability to generate programmable images with objects that can move at different speeds.
