Treatment of infections comprises of sulfamethoxazole/tripethoprim (SXT) or fluoroquinolones. We investigated antimicrobial resistance, presence of resistance genes (, ) and clonal dissemination in from a university hospital. Among 62 isolates, 45 (73%) represented infection. Two isolates (3%) were resistant to SXT and three (5%) to levofloxacin. Twenty-nine isolates (47%), including two out of three levofloxacin-resistant, carried . Resistance of was low and was not associated with or carriage. Although high degree of genetic diversity was identified (29 pulsotypes), 22/62 (35.5%) strains were classified into four clones; clone b was associated with bacteraemias.

Antibiotic resistance is on the WHO's top 10 list of global public health threats due to its rapid emergence and spread but also because of the high morbidity and mortality associated with it. Amongst the main species driving this phenomenon is , a member of the ESKAPE group of medical assistance-associated infections causing species famous for its extensively drug-resistant phenotypes. Our findings note a 91.

MOST-USDA Joint Research Center for Food Safety, School of Agriculture and Biology and State Key Laboratory of Microbial Metabolism, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai 200240, China.

is a major cause of foodborne illness worldwide, and the emergence of ciprofloxacin-resistant strains poses a significant threat to food safety and public health. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence, spread, and mechanisms of ciprofloxacin resistance in isolates from food and patient samples in Shanghai, China. A total of 1625 isolates were screened, and 34 (2.

Objective: The IMP-4 carbapenemase is an endemic cause of carbapenem resistance in the Asia-Pacific region. Our aim was to determine the dissemination mechanism of the bla gene.

Methods: Twelve representative Australian IMP-4 clinical isolates from The Alfred Hospital, were characterised using antimicrobial susceptibility testing and genome and plasmid assemblies analysed.

Background: Nemonoxacin is a new quinolone with an antibacterial efficacy against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Certain sequence types (STs) have been emerging in Taiwan, including fluoroquinolone-resistant ST8/USA300. It's an urgent need to determine nemonoxacin susceptibility against ST8/USA300 and other emerging lineages, if any.
