Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a disorder of gut-brain interaction. Previous studies have demonstrated a wide range of abnormalities in functional brain activity and connectivity patterns in FD. However, the connectivity pattern of the subcortical network (SCN), which is a hub of visceral information transmission and processing, remains unclear in FD patients. The study compared the resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) and the global and nodal topological properties of SCN between 109 FD patients and 98 healthy controls, and then explored the correlations between the connectivity metrics and clinical symptoms in FD patients. The results demonstrated that FD patients manifested the increased rsFC in seventeen edges among the SCN, decreased small-worldness and local efficiency in SCN, as well as increased nodal efficiency and nodal degree centrality in the anterior thalamus than healthy controls ( < 0.05, false discovery rate corrected). Moreover, the rsFC of the right anterior thalamus-left nucleus accumbens edge was significantly correlated with the NDSI scores ( = 0.255, = 0.008, uncorrected) and NDLQI scores ( = -0.241, = 0.013, uncorrected), the nodal efficiency of right anterior thalamus was significantly correlated with NDLQI scores ( = 0.204, = 0.036, uncorrected) in FD patients. This study indicated the abnormal rsFC pattern, as well as global and nodal topological properties of the SCN, especially the bilateral anterior thalamus in FD patients, which enhanced our understanding of the central pathophysiology of FD and will lay the foundation for the objective diagnosis of FD and the development of new therapies.

This study investigates the structural and biophysical properties of the wild-type antimicrobial peptide LyeTx I, isolated from the venom of the spider , and its analog LyeTx I-b, designed to enhance antibacterial activity, selectivity, and membrane interactions by the acetylation and increased amphipathicty. : To understand the mechanisms behind these enhanced properties, comparative analyses of the structural, topological, biophysical, and thermodynamic aspects of the interactions between each peptide and phospholipid bilayers were evaluated. Both peptides were isotopically labeled with H-Ala and N-Leu to facilitate structural studies via NMR spectroscopy.

The thermoelectric properties of hybrid systems based on a single-level quantum dot coupled to a normal-metal/half-metallic lead and attached to a topological superconductor wire are investigated. The topological superconductor wire is modeled by a spinless p-wave superconductor which hosts both a Majorana bound state at its extremity and above gap quasiparticle excitations. The main interest of our investigation is to study the interplay of sub-gap and single-particle tunneling processes and their contributions to the thermoelectric response of the considered system.

Department of Chemistry and Engineering Research Center of Advanced Rare-Earth Materials of Ministry of Education, Tsinghua University, Beijing 10084, China.

Actinide elements are characterized by their unique electronic correlations, variable valence states, and localized 5f electrons, leading to unconventional electronic and topological properties in their compounds. The distinctive physical properties of actinide materials are maintained in low-dimensional forms, yet two-dimensional (2D) actinide materials remain largely unexplored due to their scarcity and the experimental challenges posed by their radioactivity. To fill the knowledge gap in 2D actinide materials, we theoretically designed a series of stable thorium-containing 2D materials, including MXenes, chalcogenides, halides, and other compounds with unique structures.

Materials exhibiting topological transport properties, such as a large topological Hall resistivity, are crucial for next-generation spintronic devices. Here, we report large topological Hall resistivities in epitaxial supermalloy (NiFeMo) thin films with [100] and [111] orientations grown on single-crystal MgO (100) and AlO (0001) substrates, respectively. While X-ray reciprocal maps confirmed the epitaxial growth of the films, X-ray stress analyses revealed large residual strains in the films, inducing tetragonal distortions of the cubic NiFeMo unit cells.
