Purpose Of Review: The human circadian system regulates several physiological processes, including metabolism, which becomes significantly disrupted during critical illness. The common use of 24-h continuous nutrition support feeding in the intensive care unit (ICU) may further exacerbate these disruptions; this review evaluates recent evidence comparing continuous and intermittent feeding schedules in critically ill adults.

Recent Findings: Research comparing different feeding schedules in critically ill adults remains limited.

Background: Delirium is an acute state of confusion associated with adverse postoperative outcomes. Delirium is diagnosed clinically using screening tools; most cases go undetected. Identifying a delirium biomarker would allow for accurate diagnosis, application of therapies, and insight into causal pathways.

Objectives: Emergency medical services (EMS) clinicians express dissatisfaction with the quality and quantity of clinical feedback received from hospitals, which is exacerbated by the absence of standardized feedback processes. A reported lack of regular feedback impedes their ability to learn and improve care. We evaluated a newly implemented feedback tool's utilization and perceived impact on EMS clinicians and our health system.

Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, Brazil.

Background: The deposition of β-amyloid (Aβ) plaques is a classical neuropathological feature of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Currently, it is believed that intermediate products of the Aβ fibrillogenesis process, like the β-amyloid oligomers (AβOs), are the most toxic forms, and are involved in neurodegenerative processes in AD. The evaluation of cerebral glucose metabolism in patients with β-amyloid plaque deposition using [F]FDG-PET has been used as a marker of neurodegeneration in AD.

Identifying Components of an Enhanced Recovery Pathway for Primary Cleft Palate Repair: A Scoping Review.

Cleft Palate Craniofac J

January 2025

Department of Plastic Surgery, Children's Health Ireland at Crumlin, Dublin, Ireland.

Objective: This study aims to map the existing sources of evidence on perioperative care and recovery strategies for primary cleft palate repair, to identify elements that should be included in an enhanced recovery pathway (ERP), and to identify gaps in current knowledge.

Design: Scoping review.

Setting: ERPs are evidence-based, patient-centered, multimodal, perioperative care pathways designed to reduce surgical stress and improve postoperative outcomes and are increasingly being reported in the cleft lip and palate literature.
