The structural design of photocatalysts is highly related to the separation and transfer of photogenerated carriers, which is essential for the improvement of photocatalytic hydrogen evolution performance. Here, the hybrid photocatalyst M@NCNT@ZIS (M: Fe, Co, Ni; NCNT: nitrogen-doped carbon nanotube; ZIS: ZnIn S ) with a hierarchical structure is rationally designed and precisely synthesized. The unique hollow structure with a large specific surface area offers abundant reactive sites, thus increasing the adsorption of reactants. Importantly, the properly positioned metal nanoparticles realize the directional charge migration from ZIS to M@NCNT, which significantly improves the efficiency of charge separation. Furthermore, the intimate interface between M@NCNT and ZIS effectively facilitates charge migration by shortening the transfer distance and providing numerous transport channels. As a result, the optimized Co@NCNT@ZIS exhibits a remarkable photocatalytic hydrogen evolution efficiency (43.73 mmol g h ) without Pt as cocatalyst. Experimental characterizations and density functional theory calculations demonstrate that the synergistic effect between hydrogen adsorption and interfacial charge transport is of great significance for improving photocatalytic hydrogen production performance.

Structural Isomerism of {Ag14}10+ Nanocluster Encapsulated by Bowl-like Polyoxometalates.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

January 2025

Beijing Institute of Technology, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, 8th Liangxiang East Road, Room 829, Eco-Industrial Building, Beijing, 102488, Beijing, CHINA.

The structural isomerism of atomically precise nanoclusters provides a preeminent theoretical model to investigate the structure-property relationships. Herein, we synthesized three bowl-like polyoxometalate (POM)-encapsulated Ag nanoclusters (denoted as {Ag14(Sb3W30)2}-1, {Ag14(Sb3W30)2}-1a, and {Ag14(Sb3W30)2}-2) via a facile one-pot solvothermal approach. Among them, for the first time, an unprecedented isomeric {Ag14}10+ nanoclusters are obtained in polyoxoanions {Ag14(Sb3W30)2}-1 and {Ag14(Sb3W30)2}-2, which should be probably induced by the different distribution of coordinating O atoms in two isomeric bowl-like {Sb3W30} ligands.

The prominence of binuclear catalysts underlines the need for the design and development of diverse bifunctional ligand frameworks that exhibit tunable electronic and structural properties. Such strategies enable metal-metal and ligand-metal cooperation towards catalytic applications, improve catalytic activity, and are essential for advancing multi-electron transfers for catalytic application. Hereby, we present the synthesis, crystal structure, and photocatalytic properties of a binuclear Ni(II) complex, [Ni2(1,10-phenanthroline)2(2-sulfidophenolate)2] (1), which crystallizes in the centrosymmetric triclinic system (P-1) showing extensive intra- and inter- non-coordinated interactions.

Catalytic reduction of NAD(P) to NAD(P)H.

Chem Commun (Camb)

January 2025

Department of Chemistry and Nanoscience, Ewha Womans University, Seoul 03760, Korea.

1,4-Dihydronicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) and its phosphate ester (NADPH) are essential cofactors required for all living cells, playing pivotal roles in multiple biological processes such as energy metabolism and biosynthesis. NADPH is produced during photosynthesis by the combination of photosystem II, where water is oxidised, and photosystem I, where NADP is reduced. This review focuses on catalytic NAD(P) (and its analogues) reduction to generate 1,4-NAD(P)H without formation of other regioisomers and the dimer.

Bismuth-layered ferroelectric nanomaterials exhibit great potential for piezo-photocatalysis. However, a major challenge lies in the difficulty of recovering the catalytic powders, raising concerns regarding secondary pollution of water. In this work, a novel hierarchical porous ferroelectric ceramic containing {110} surface-exposed BiNdTiO (BIT-Nd) nanosheet arrays is grown on a porous ceramic matrix for efficient and recyclable piezo-photocatalysis.

Hollow TiO@TpPa S-Scheme Photocatalyst for Efficient HO Production Through O in Deionized Water Using Phototautomerization.

January 2025

Laboratory of Solar Fuel, Faculty of Materials Science and Chemistry, China University of Geosciences, 68 Jincheng Street, Wuhan, Hubei, 430078, P. R. China.

Hydrogen peroxide (HO) production through photocatalytic O reduction reaction (ORR) is a mild and cost-efficient alternative to the anthraquinone oxidation strategy. Of note, singlet state oxygen (O) plays a crucial role in ORR. Herein, a hollow TiO@TpPa (TOTP) S-scheme heterojunction by the Schiff base reactions involving 1,3,5-triformylphloroglucinol (Tp) and paraphenylenediamine (Pa) for efficient photocatalytic HO production in deionized water has been developed.
