Background: Soft contact lens wearing increases the risk of an infectious keratitis. A patient present with a red painfull eye, in which case a corneal erosion (coloring with fluorescein) was seen by the general practitioner. It is possible that the clinical course worsens in a few days with a corneal perforation as a result. In these cases a timely referral is necessary.

Case: A fifteen year old soft contact lens wearing girl developed an infectious keratitis. Within a few days she developed a corneal perforation. As a result of an emergency transplantation within 24 hours the patient preserved her globe and her visual acuity recovered.

Conclusion: Emergency transplantations usually have a complicated course with a high risk of re-transplantation and long-term pharmacological therapy. Such an emergency transplantation is primarily performed to preserve the globe. In the Netherlands a separate pool of emergency donor transplants is available, so that a transplantation can be performed within 24 hours.

Affordable high-resolution cameras and state-of-the-art computer vision techniques have led to the emergence of various vision-based tactile sensors. However, current vision-based tactile sensors mainly depend on geometric optics or marker tracking for tactile assessments, resulting in limited performance. To solve this dilemma, we introduce optical interference patterns as the visual representation of tactile information for flexible tactile sensors.

Background Fracture of nickel-titanium (Ni-Ti) instruments in root canals is commonly associated with compromised outcomes in endodontic treatment. There is no single, universally accepted approach for managing this complication. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of an Nd: YAP laser-assisted protocol in removing fractured Ni-Ti files in teeth with minimal root curvature (less than 15 degrees).

Background: Delayed reactions to hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers have been reported following various immunologic and infectious triggers.

Aim: Herein, we describe cases of delayed immunologic reactions (DIRs) following HA-soft tissue augmentation fillers precipitated by triggers not previously described in the literature.  Patients: Case 1 describes a 57-year-old female with DIR to HA-filler following a motor vehicle accident in the marionette lines and nasolabial folds.

Understanding the values and origin of fundamental physical constants, one of the grandest challenges in modern science, has been discussed in particle physics, astronomy and cosmology. More recently, it was realized that fundamental constants have a biofriendly window set by life processes involving motion and flow. This window is related to intrinsic fluid properties such as energy and length scales in condensed matter set by fundamental constants.
