Background/purpose: Several brands of calcium silicate-based cements (CSBCs) are currently marketed. Here we compared physicochemical and biological properties of new products Ortho MTA (BioMTA), Retro MTA (BioMTA), and EZ-Seal (Ezekiel) to widely used ProRoot MTA (Dentsply Tulsa).
Materials And Methods: CSBCs were analyzed by X-ray diffractometry and examined by scanning electron microscopy. Elemental composition was determined by energy dispersive spectroscopy. Particle size was measured by particle size analyzer. Human stem cells from apical papilla (SCAPs) were incubated with eluates from CSBCs. Survival of SCAP cells was evaluated with MTT assay. The Alizarin red S stain was used to identify calcified nodules formed in SCAP cultures. The effects of CSBC eluates on SCAP proliferation and migration were examined using an scratch "wound-healing" assay.
Results: All CSBC specimens showed similar X-ray diffraction patterns. The average particle size of EZ-Seal was smaller than ProRoot MTA, Ortho MTA, and Retro MTA ( < 0.001). The least cytotoxicity of eluates was found for EZ-Seal. In the Alizarin red S staining test, calcified nodules were observed in cultures with ProRoot MTA, Ortho MTA, and Retro MTA, however, no calcified nodules were observed in cultures with EZ-Seal. SCAP proliferation and migration capacity in presence of EZ-Seal was higher than with ProRoot MTA, Ortho MTA, and Retro MTA ( < 0.001).
Conclusion: EZ-Seal has a smaller average particle size and a better cytocompatibility than all other examined CSBCs.

To investigate the promoting effect of extracellular vesicles derived from myocardial cells (CM-EVs) on the reprogramming of cardiac fibroblasts (CFs) into cardiomyocyte-like cells (iCMs) and their therapeutic effect on myocardial infarction (MI) in rats. Cell experiments: The differential adhesion method was used to obtain Sprague Dawley (SD) suckling rat CFs and cardiomyocytes (CMs), while the ultracentrifugation method was used to obtain CM-EVs. Transmission electron microscopy and nanoparticle tracking technology were used to analyze and determine the morphology and particle size of CM-EVs.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a severe and progressive lung disorder with an average survival rate of 3 to 5 years. IPF presents a significant challenge in clinical management, necessitating novel therapeutic approaches. Nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) have proven to be promising vehicles for targeted drug delivery to the lung tissues.

The natural flavonoid Quercetin (QT) showed a potential for various health benefits, but its pharmaceutical applications are hindered by low solubility, permeability, and limited bioavailability. This research aimed to synthesize, develop and optimize polylactic acid co-glycolic acid (PLGA) nanobubbles using solvent evaporation method as a sustained delivery system for QT, thus improving stability and bioavailability. Through a four-factor, three-level Box Behnken Design, 29 experimental runs were carried out to optimize QT-PLGA nanobubbles.

Ultra-intense short-pulse lasers interacting with matter are capable of generating exceptionally bright secondary radiation sources. The short pulse duration (picoseconds to nanoseconds), small source size (sub-mm), and comparable high peak flux to conventional single particle sources make them an attractive source for radiography using a combination of particle species, known as multimodal imaging. Simultaneous x-ray and MeV neutron imaging of multi-material objects can yield unique advantages for material segmentation and identification within the full sample.

The triboelectric charging of granular material is a long-standing and poorly understood phenomenon, with numerous scientific and industrial applications ranging from volcanic lightning to pharmaceutical production. The most widely utilised apparatus for the study of such charging is the Faraday cup, however, existing analysis of the resulting measurements is often simplistic and fails to distinguish charging due to particle-particle interactions from charging occurring through other mechanisms. Here, we outline a modular approach for interpreting these measurements, enabling triboelectric phenomena to be explored in greater detail.
