The global demand for oilseeds is increasing along with the human population. The family of Brassicaceae crops are no exception, typically harvested as a valuable source of oil, rich in beneficial molecules important for human health. The global capacity for improving Brassica yield has steadily risen over the last 50 years, with the major crop Brassica napus (rapeseed, canola) production increasing to ~72 Gt in 2020. In contrast, the production of Brassica mustard crops has fluctuated, rarely improving in farming efficiency. The drastic increase in global yield of B. napus is largely due to the demand for a stable source of cooking oil. Furthermore, with the adoption of highly efficient farming techniques, yield enhancement programs, breeding programs, the integration of high-throughput phenotyping technology and establishing the underlying genetics, B. napus yields have increased by >450 fold since 1978. Yield stability has been improved with new management strategies targeting diseases and pests, as well as by understanding the complex interaction of environment, phenotype and genotype. This review assesses the global yield and yield stability of agriculturally important oilseed Brassica species and discusses how contemporary farming and genetic techniques have driven improvements.

The effects of heat-assisted vat photopolymerization (HVPP) on the physical and mechanical properties of 3D-printed dental resins, including the morphometric stability of 3D-printed crowns, were investigated. A resin tank was designed to maintain the resin at 30, 40, and 50 ℃ during the 3D printing process. Test specimens were fabricated using a commercial dental resin, with untreated resin serving as the control group.

Microwave-assisted extraction conditions were optimized using response surface methodology to evaluate the effects of extraction parameters on the yield and carbohydrate content of Luffa aegyptiaca mucilage. Extraction at 540 W for 2 min with a 1:20 (g/mL) was determined as the optimal parameter, resulting in a maximum yield of 5.90 % (w/w) with 63 % carbohydrate content consisting of glucose, galactose, maltose, mannose, and galacturonic acid, with structural linkages of β (1 → 4) and β (1 → 6) glycosidic bonds.

The quest for stable and high-performance photocatalysts is pivotal in advancing the field of photocatalytic CO reduction. Traditional single-component semiconductors are often impeded by their inability to concurrently achieve a broad light absorption spectrum, efficient separation of photogenerated charge carriers, and enduring stability, thereby constraining their photocatalytic efficacy. In this study, we introduce an innovative hm-CN/CdS heterojunction that broadens the light absorption spectrum and significantly enhances the separation efficiency of photogenerated charge carriers.

Eversion carotid endarterectomy (CEA) in awake patients is performed using cervical plexus blocks (CPBs) with or without carotid artery sheath infiltration (CASI) under ultrasound guidance. Although adequacy of anesthesia (AoA) guidance monitors nociception/antinociception balance, its impact on intraoperative analgesia quality and perioperative outcomes in awake CEA remains unexplored.
