The acceptor-donor-acceptor (A-D-A) type conjugated organic molecule has been widely applied in the organic optoelectronics field. A total of Nine compounds (-) were designed under the A-D-A framework, with the electron donor benzodithiophene as the core and dicyanomethylene as the acceptor moiety, modifying the benzodithiophene with the phenyl, naphthyl, and difluorinated phenyl groups. The conjugation length can be changed by introducing a thiophene π-conjugated bridge. The geometric structures, electronic structure, excited state properties, aromaticity, and the static- and frequency-dependent second hyperpolarizabilities were investigated by employing high-precision density functional theory (DFT) calculations with an aug-cc-pVDZ basis set. As a result, the three compounds with the longest conjugation length exhibit a smaller energy gap (), larger UV-vis absorption coefficient, and response range, which are the three strongest third-order nonlinear optical (NLO) response properties in this work. This work systematically explored the connection between molecular structure and NLO response, which provides a rational design strategy for high-performance organic NLO materials.

We introduce the reflection intensity correlation scan (RICO-scan), a nonlinear (NL) optical technique designed to characterize opaque and scattering media, where traditional transmittance methods fail. By analyzing variations in the intensity correlation functions of speckle patterns generated from backscattered light, the RICO-scan was applied to an unpolished silicon surface and silicon powders, providing information on the intensity dependence of the complex refractive index. Numerical simulations based on Fresnel equations and speckle propagation corroborated the experimental results, demonstrating RICO-scan's robustness and versatility.

During its propagation, a shock wave may come across and interact with different perturbations, including acoustical waves. While this issue has been the subject of many studies, the particular acoustic-acoustic interaction between a weak shock and a sound wave has been very scarcely investigated. Here, a theory describing the encounter of those two waves is developed, up to second- and third-order.

Density functional theory calculations and a finite deformation method are used to calculate second- and, most notably, third-order elastic constants of amorphous silicon and amorphous silicon dioxide, as represented by model structures generated via melt-quench force-field molecular dynamics simulations. Linear and nonlinear elastic constants are used to deduce macroscopic elastic moduli, such as the bulk and shear moduli, their pressure derivatives, and the elastic Grüneisen parameter. Our calculations show that the elastic properties of amorphous silicon reach the isotropic elastic limit within the nanometer length scale, attaining characteristics, both linear and nonlinear, comparable to those of crystalline silicon.

In the present study, lanthanum oxytellurate (LOT) samples with varying La : Te ratios are successfully synthesized using a simple hydrothermal method that has enormous advantages. The prepared samples crystallize in a LaOTe composite phase with an orthorhombic crystal system. A nanorod-like morphology is observed for each sample, and the presence of constituent elements is verified from EDX results.

In this report, the nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO NPs) have been explored experimentally using femtosecond laser light along with the Z-scan approach. The synthesis of TiO NPs was carried out in distilled water through nanosecond second harmonic Nd:YAG laser ablation. Characterization of the TiO NPs colloids was conducted using UV-visible absorption spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), inductively coupled plasma (ICP), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX).
