In the past two decades, studies of Y chromosomal single nucleotide polymorphisms (Y-SNPs) and short tandem repeats (Y-STRs) have shed light on the demographic history of Central Asia, the heartland of Eurasia. However, complex patterns of migration and admixture have complicated population genetic studies in Central Asia. Here, we sequenced and analyzed the Y-chromosomes of 187 male individuals from Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Uzbek, Karakalpak, Hazara, Karluk, Tajik, Uyghur, Dungan, and Turkmen populations. High diversity and admixture from peripheral areas of Eurasia were observed among the paternal gene pool of these populations. This general pattern can be largely attributed to the activities of ancient people in four periods, including the Neolithic farmers, Indo-Europeans, Turks, and Mongols. Most importantly, we detected the consistent expansion of many minor lineages over the past thousand years, which may correspond directly to the formation of modern populations in these regions. The newly discovered sub-lineages and variants provide a basis for further studies of the contributions of minor lineages to the formation of modern populations in Central Asia.

: a historical, genetic, and conservational perspective of the primary progenitor species of domesticated apples.

Apples are one of the most valued tree fruit crops around the world. Currently, a few highly popular and economically successful apple cultivars dominate the commercial production and serve as main genetic contributors to the development of new apple cultivars. This limited level of genetic diversity grown as a clonally propagated monoculture renders the apple industry vulnerable to the wide range of weather events, pests, and pathogens.

January 2025

Following the commodity risk assessment of and plants for planting from Türkiye, in which (Hemiptera: Diaspididae), the pistachio oyster scale or yellow pistachio scale, was identified as a pest of possible concern, the EFSA Panel on Plant Health performed a pest categorisation for the territory of the European Union (EU). is reported as a polyphagous pest which, however, mainly affects plants of the genus Originating from Asia, it is widely distributed in pistachio producing countries of Central, South and West Asia. Within the EU, the pest has been reported from Cyprus and Greece.

NIR Triggered Bionic Bilayer Membrane-Encapsulated Nanoparticles for Synergistic Photodynamic, Photothermal and Chemotherapy of Cervical Cancer.

Int J Nanomedicine

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Pathogenesis Prevention and Treatment of High Incidence Diseases in Central Asia, School of Medical Engineering and Technology Xinjiang Medical University, Urumqi, 830011, People's Republic of China.

Purpose: A synergistic treatment strategy of phototherapy and chemotherapy has been shown to improve efficacy and offer unique advantages over monotherapy. The purpose of this study is to explore a new nanocarrier system with liposome as the inner membrane and erythrocyte membrane as the outer membrane, which aims to realize the leak-free load of phototherapy drug indocyanine green (ICG) and chemotherapy drug doxorubicin (DOX), prolong the circulation time in vivo and improve the therapeutic effect.

Patients And Methods: In this study, bilayer membrane-loaded ICG and DOX nanoparticles (RBC@ICG-DOX NPs) were prepared and characterized.

Simethicone with or without N-acetylcysteine as premedication in esophagogastroduodenoscopy: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Ann Gastroenterol

December 2024

Division of Gastroenterology, Pancreatobiliary and Digestive Endoscopy, Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia, Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital, Jakarta (Marcellus Simadibrata), Indonesia.

Background: The impairment of gastrointestinal mucosa visibility during esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), due to the presence of foam and bubbles, may lead to reduced quality in the EGD results. The combination of simethicone, a defoaming agent, along with N-acetylcysteine (NAC), which has mucolytic properties, has been proposed to improve the visibility of the mucosa. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of pre-procedural administration of simethicone and N-acetylcysteine in improving mucosal visibility, procedure time and mucosal cleansing volume needed during EGD.

Introduction: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection or corticosteroid usage during the COVID-19 pandemic as risk factors for avascular necrosis (AVN) of the femoral head (osteonecrosis of the femoral head/femoral head AVN [FHAVN]), as well as its link to clinical and radiological outcomes, are poorly understood. Osteonecrosis, which results from a disruption in vascular supply to the femoral head, is a prevalent cause of hip joint deterioration and one of the most common reasons for total hip arthroplasty (THA)/total hip replacement in India and other Asian countries. This study will aid in understanding the condition's epidemiology and statistically determining the risk of disease related with pandemic exposure.
