Toxemia and peripheral blood of dogs were studied after irradiation with doses of 2.9, 10, 40, and 80 Gy. Destructive changes were revealed in the blood part of which could not be counted by conventional methods. Toxemia was well pronounced as early as 3 h after irradiation with high doses.

Chronic low-grade inflammation is a hallmark of aging, aka "inflammaging", which is linked to a wide range of age-associated diseases. Immune dysfunction increases disease susceptibility, and increases morbidity and mortality of aging. Innate immune cells, including monocytes, macrophages and neutrophils, are the first responders of host defense and the key mediators of various metabolic and inflammatory insults.

Background: Gut-derived bacterial and endotoxin translocation induce systemic inflammation, which exerts a pivotal pathogenetic role in all phases of atherosclerosis.

Objectives: To investigate prospectively the gut barrier function, endotoxin translocation and inflammatory response in ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients undergoing primary percutaneous coronary artery intervention (PPCI).

Methods: Twenty-seven patients with STEMI that underwent successful PPCI were subjected to peripheral blood sampling at 3-time points; before PPCI (day0), 24 h (day1) and 96 h (day4) after PPCI and were compared with 20 chronic coronary syndrome (CCS) patients and 11 healthy controls.

The sympathetic arm of the inflammatory reflex is the efferent pathway through which the central nervous system (CNS) can control peripheral immune responses. Diminazene aceturate (DIZE) is an antiparasitic drug that has been reported to exert protective effects on various experimental models of inflammation. However, the pathways by which DIZE promotes a protective immunomodulatory effects still need to be well established, and no studies demonstrate the capacity of DIZE to modulate a neural reflex to control inflammation.

Endotoxemia and sepsis induce neuroinflammation and increase the risk of neurodegenerative disorders although the mechanism by which peripheral infection leads to brain inflammation is not well understood. While circulating serum lipoproteins are known immunometabolites with the potential to modulate the acute phase response and cross the blood brain barrier, their contribution to neuroinflammation during systemic infection is unknown. The objective of this study was to elucidate the mechanisms by which lipoprotein subclasses modulate lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced neuroinflammation.

Recently, compelling evidence points to dysbiosis and disruption of the epithelial intestinal barrier as major players in the pathophysiology of metabolic disorders, such as obesity. Upon the intestinal barrier disruption, components from bacterial metabolism and bacteria itself can reach peripheral tissues through circulation. This has been associated with the low-grade inflammation that characterizes obesity and other metabolic diseases.
