AI Article Synopsis

  • Experimental research indicates that how information is presented (rational framing effects) impacts the social behaviors of young children based on their interdependence with others.
  • The study suggests that young children may not have the complex thinking skills believed to be necessary for these rational framing effects to occur.
  • To truly grasp rational framing effects in children, it's important to explore how these effects develop over time (ontogenetic origins).

Article Abstract

Experimental research is reviewed which suggests that rational framing effects influence young children's social activities according to a logic of interdependence. However, young children are unlikely to possess some of the elaborate cognitive skills argued in the Target Article to be prerequisite for rational framing effects. Understanding rational framing effects requires understanding their ontogenetic origins.

The shift to pass/fail grading in undergraduate medical education was designed to reduce medical students' stress. However, this change has given rise to a "shadow economy of effort," as students move away from traditional didactic and clinical learning to engage in increasing numbers of research, volunteer, and work experiences to enhance their residency applications. These extracurricular efforts to secure a residency position are sub-phenomena of the hidden curriculum.

Amidst the backdrop of the profound synergy between navigation and visual perception, there is an urgent demand for accurate real-time vehicle positioning in urban environments. However, the existing global navigation satellite system (GNSS) algorithms based on Kalman filters fall short of precision. In response, we introduce an elastic filtering algorithm with visual perception for vehicle GNSS navigation and positioning.

Within competency-based medical education (CBME) residency programs, Entrustable Professional Activity (EPA) assessments endeavor to both bolster learning and inform promotion decisions. Recent implementation studies describe successes but also adverse effects, including residents and preceptors drifting towards bureaucratic / purely administrative behaviors and attitudes, although the drivers behind this tendency are not adequately understood. This study sought to examine resident and faculty experiences with implemented EPA processes to elucidate what leads them toward a 'tick-box' approach that has been described in the literature.

Persuasive appeals frequently prove ineffective or produce unintended outcomes, due to the presence of motivated reasoning. Using the example of electric cars adoption, this research delves into the impact of emotional content, message valence, and the coherence of pre-existing attitudes on biased information evaluation. By conducting a factorial survey (N = 480) and incorporating a computational model of attitude formation, we aim to gain a deeper insight into the cognitive-affective mechanisms driving motivated reasoning.

When we use language to communicate, we must choose what to say, what not to say, and how to say it. That is, we must decide how to the message. These linguistic choices matter: Framing a discussion one way or another can influence how people think, feel, and act in many important domains, including politics, health, business, journalism, law, and even conversations with loved ones.
