Purpose: The relationship between recurrence and systemic inflammation in the early postoperative period of colorectal cancer (CRC) is unclear, and no study has examined changes in recurrence risk resulting from postoperative inflammation. This study aimed to investigate the prognostic impact of severe postoperative inflammatory response after curative resection of CRC.
Methods: Subjects were 422 consecutive CRC patients who underwent curative surgery between 2012 and 2016, with a follow-up period of 5 years after surgery. The prognostic impacts of high and low postoperative C-reactive protein (CRP) levels were examined, and temporal changes in recurrence risk were examined using hazard function analysis.
Results: Patients were divided into high (n = 68) and low (n = 354) CRP groups using CRP 12.5 mg/dL as the cut-off based on receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. Multivariable analysis revealed that high CRP was a significant predictor of recurrence (hazard ratio: 2.21; p < 0.001). According to the hazard function of recurrence risk, the hazard rate of the low CRP group peaked at 8.4 months postoperatively (peak hazard rate: 0.0073/month) and decreased thereafter, while that of the high CRP group peaked at 5.6 months (0.0142/month) and was persistently higher than that of the low CRP group for the study duration.
Conclusions: A severe inflammatory response in the early postoperative period of CRC increased the recurrence risk, and the recurrence hazard of patients with high CRP levels was earlier and persistently higher than that of patients with low CRP levels. CRC patients with high CRP levels may require more frequent follow-up.

Epilepsy is a serious neurological disease that impacts all facets of a patient's life, including their socioeconomic situation. The failure to identify underlying epileptic signatures in their early stages might result in severe harm to the central nervous system (CNS) and permanent adverse changes to some organs. Therefore, numerous antiepileptic drugs (AEDs are frequently used to control and treat the frequency of seizures.

BACKGROUND Perineal injuries affecting the scrotum and penis are rare in pediatric patients, owing to the protective anatomy of the male genitalia. However, when such injuries do occur, timely surgical intervention is crucial. This kind of damage might not be life-threatening but could cause functional disorders and have a huge impact on the patients' psychological condition if not treated appropriately, especially as they enter puberty.

In fluvial environments, the shifting of river channels and bank erosion are frequently caused by both natural and anthropogenic factors. Riverine hazards like bank erosion and course alterations offer severe issues to the riparian villages along the lower basin of the Tista River in India, which substantially influence the livelihoods of inhabitants living there. This research addressed river channel shifting tendency and identified major bank erosion-prone villages along the lower course of the Tista River and challenges to the livelihoods of the riparian people.

Pakistan's geographic location makes it an important land hub between Central Asia, Middle East-North Africa, and China. However, the railways, roads, farmland, riverways, and residential quarters in the Piedmont plains of Baluchistan province in northwestern Pakistan are under serious threat of flooding in the summer of 2022. The urgency and severity of climate change's impact on humanity are underscored by the significant threats posed to human life and property in Piedmont Plains environments through extreme flood events, which has garnered widespread concerns.

Karst small towns globally face challenges due to limited disaster-resilient resources, making it difficult to handle increasingly severe disaster environments. Improving the efficiency of disaster-resilient resource utilization and maintaining a tight balance state of disaster-resilient resources (TBS) are crucial for enhancing disaster adaptability and resilience. This study used urban and disaster data from a representative karst region in China (2017-2021) to conduct a quantitative analysis of TBS in karst small towns, exploring the mechanisms and interactions within this state and identifying obstacle factors.
