The flavonoid diosmin (diosmetin 7--rutinoside) is used as a therapeutic agent for disorders of the blood vessels such as hemorrhoids and varicose veins. Diosmin is commercially produced using semi-synthetic methods involving the oxidation of hesperidin, the most abundant flavonoid in citrus fruits. However, this method produces byproducts that are toxic to the environment, and new sustainable methods to produce diosmin are required.

Flavonoids are a class of secondary metabolites widely distributed in plants. Regiospecific modification by methylation and glycosylation determines flavonoid diversity. A rare flavone glycoside, diosmin (luteolin-4'-methoxyl-7-O-glucosyl-rhamnoside), occurs in Chrysanthemum indicum.

Generations of different synthetic pesticides have been launched over time to maintain balance between production and consumption of the agricultural yield, control various disease programmes, store grains, etc. Pyrethroids, which are supposed to be non-toxic, have been excessively implemented and have contaminated soil and water bodies. Thus, pyrethroids cause severe and dreadful pernicious effects on various life forms residing in soil, air, and water.

Flavonoids are an essential class of secondary metabolites found in plants and possess various nutritional, medicinal, and agricultural properties. However, the poor water solubility of flavonoid aglycones limits their potential applications. To overcome this issue, glycosylation is a promising approach for improving water solubility and bioavailability.
