The perovskite SrRuO (SRO) is a strongly correlated oxide whose physical and structural properties are strongly intertwined. Notably, SRO is an itinerant ferromagnet that exhibits a large anomalous Hall effect (AHE) whose sign can be readily modified. Here, a hydrogen spillover method is used to tailor the properties of SRO thin films via hydrogen incorporation. It is found that the magnetization and Curie temperature of the films are strongly reduced and, at the same time, the structure evolves from an orthorhombic to a tetragonal phase as the hydrogen content is increased up to ≈0.9 H per SRO formula unit. The structural phase transition is shown, via in situ crystal truncation rod measurements, to be related to tilting of the RuO octahedral units. The significant changes observed in magnetization are shown, via density functional theory (DFT), to be a consequence of shifts in the Fermi level. The reported findings provide new insights into the physical properties of SRO via tailoring its lattice symmetry and emergent physical phenomena via the hydrogen spillover technique.

The ability to finely tune the nuclearity of active metal sites is critical for designing highly selective catalysts, especially for hydrogenation processes. In this work, we developed a novel PdCu catalyst with an ordered body-centered cubic (BCC) structure, enabling precise control over Pd nuclearity to optimize selectivity. Using a facile polyol synthesis method, we modulated the Pd coordination environment, reducing the Pd-Pd coordination number from 3 (disordered face-centered cubic, FCC) to 0 (ordered BCC), thereby achieving full isolation of Pd by the surrounding Cu atoms.

The hydrogen dissociation and spillover mechanism on oxide-supported Cu catalysts play a pivotal role in the hydrogenation of carbon dioxide to methanol. This study investigates the hydrogen spillover mechanism on Cu/CeO catalysts using spectral characterization under high-pressure reaction conditions and density functional theory (DFT) simulations. The research confirms that the Cu sites serve as the initial dissociation points for the hydrogen molecules.

Hydrogen spillover is an important process in catalytic hydrogenation reactions, facilitating H activation and modulating surface chemistry of reducible oxide catalysts. This study focuses on the unveiling of platinum-induced hydrogen spillover on monoclinic tungsten trioxide (γ-WO), employing ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, density functional theory calculations and microkinetic modeling to investigate the dynamic evolution of surface states at varied temperatures. At room temperature, hydrogen spillover results in the formation of W and hydrogen intermediates (hydroxyl species and adsorbed water), facilitated by Pt metal clusters.

Despite the advancement of the Pt-catalyzed hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) through oxophilic metal-hydroxide surface hybridization, its stability in acidic solutions remains unsatisfactory. This is primarily due to excessive aggregation of active hydrogen, which hinders subsequent hydrogen desorption, coupled with the poor operational stability of metal hydroxides. In this study, we have designed Pt nanoparticles-modified NiFeCoCuCr high-entropy layered double hydroxides (Pt/HE-LDH) that exhibit exceptional catalytic activity toward HER in acidic electrolytes.

The semi-hydrogenation of alkynes into alkenes rather than alkanes is of great importance in the chemical industry, and palladium-based metallic catalysts are currently employed. Unfortunately, a fairly high cost and uncontrollable over-hydrogenation impeded the application of Pd-based catalysts on a large scale. Herein, a sandwich structure single atom Pd catalyst, Z@Pd@Z, was prepared impregnation exchange and epitaxial growth methods (Z stands for ZIF-8), in which Pd single atoms were stabilized by pyrrolic N in a zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-8).
