The thinking of "identifying forms and verifying quality'' in materia medica research came from the theory of "treatment based on syndrome differentiation" in traditional Chinese medicine. It refers to an approach to evaluate the quality of materia medica based on their characteristics and external properties in order to clarify the nature of medicinal materials. This paper examined the historical development of "identifying forms and verifying quality'' from the pre-Qin Dynasty up to today and analysed the connotation of this thinking. It is believed that this thinking has advantages such as scientific, holistic, practical, and universal considerations. However, it still needs to be developed in terms of philosophical thinking and practical application.

Drought is a major abiotic stress in restricting the growth, development, and yield of maize. As a significant epigenetic regulator, small RNA also functions in connecting the transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulatory network. Further to help comprehending the molecular mechanisms underlying drought adaptability and tolerance of maize, an integrated multi-omics analysis of transcriptome, sRNAome, and degradome was performed on the seedling roots of an elite hybrid Zhengdan958 under drought stress.

Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) are known to be good MRI contrasts, but they have a high tendency to aggregate and their biocompatibility is limited. Hyaluronic acid is highly biocompatible, can provide SPION with colloidal stability, and interacts specifically with tumor cells through the CD44 receptor; therefore, it was used as a stabilizing layer. We successfully obtained SPION coated with hyaluronic acid and further functionalized it with folic acid to construct a dual-targeted system.

The objective of this work was to investigate the biofilm production capacity of the isolate EB-40 (Bacillus cereus) in a culture medium for the multiplication of microorganisms and in roots of in vitro grown banana explants. It was observed that the isolate was able to produce biofilms in tryptone, soy and agar (TSA) culture medium and in the roots of explants. The format, architecture and location of the biofilms in TSA culture medium presented an exopolymer matrix formed by EB-40 presented coccoid bacillary cells and fibrillar structures.

Patterning soft materials with cell adhesion motifs can be used to emulate the structures found in natural tissues. While patterning in tissue is driven by cellular assembly, patterning soft materials in the laboratory most often involves light-mediated chemical reactions to spatially control the presentation of cell binding sites. Here we present hydrogels that are formed with two responsive crosslinkers-an anthracene-maleimide adduct and a disulfide linkage-thereby allowing simultaneous or sequential patterning using force and UV light.

Background: Programmed cell death plays an important role in neuronal injury and death after ischemic stroke (IS), leading to cellular glucose deficiency. Glucose deficiency can cause abnormal accumulation of cytotoxic disulfides, resulting in disulfidptosis. Ferroptosis, apoptosis, necroptosis, and autophagy inhibitors cannot inhibit this novel programmed cell death mechanism.
