Purpose: To describe the clinical characteristics, imaging findings and genetic testing results of a young simplex male with choroideremia.
Observations: A 6-year-old Hispanic-Chinese male was referred to the retina clinic for peripheral retinal pigmentary changes observed in both eyes on routine exam. The patient has an unremarkable family history and developmental history. Best corrected visual acuity was 20/25 in both eyes. Optical coherence tomography demonstrated attenuation of the ellipsoid and interdigitation zones. Widefield fundus autofluorescence demonstrated nummular hypo-autofluorescence peripherally in both eyes. Genetic testing revealed a variant originally described as a variant of uncertain significance (VUS) a c. 1775_1814del (p.Glu592Valfs*44) identified in the gene, which was reclassified as pathogenic following segregation analysis. The patient was diagnosed with choroideremia due to a pathogenic variant.
Conclusions: The multimodal imaging findings demonstrated here illustrate important clues to the diagnosis of Choroideremia in a simplex male.

Background: In this study, we prepared a porous gradient scaffold with hydroxyapatite microtubules (HAMT) and chitosan (CHS) and investigated osteogenesis induced by these scaffolds.
Methods: The arrangement of wax balls in the mold can control the size and distribution of the pores of the scaffold, and form an interconnected gradient pore structure. The scaffolds were systematically evaluated and for biocompatibility, biological activity, and regulatory mechanisms.

Previous research has shown that smoking tobacco is associated with changes or differences in brain volume and cortical thickness, resulting in a smaller brain volume and decreased cortical thickness in smokers compared with non-smokers. However, the effects of smokeless tobacco on brain volume and cortical thickness remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate whether the use of shammah, a nicotine-containing smokeless tobacco popular in Middle Eastern countries, is associated with differences in brain volume and thickness compared with non-users and to assess the influence of shammah quantity and type on these effects.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a common complication during pregnancy. This retrospective study investigates the correlation between umbilical blood flow index and maternal-fetal outcomes in pregnant women with GDM, aiming to contribute to evidence-based risk assessment and management strategy in this high-risk obstetric population. This retrospective study recruited 119 pregnant women with GDM who were admitted to the Yichang Central People's Hospital, between January 2022 and January 2024.

Artificial intelligence (AI), with advantages such as automatic feature extraction and high data processing capacity and being unaffected by fatigue, can accurately analyze images obtained from colonoscopy, assess the quality of bowel preparation, and reduce the subjectivity of the operating physician, which may help to achieve standardization and normalization of colonoscopy. In this study, we aimed to explore the value of using an AI-driven intestinal image recognition model to evaluate intestinal preparation before colonoscopy. In this retrospective analysis, we analyzed the clinical data of 98 patients who underwent colonoscopy in Nantong First People's Hospital from May 2023 to October 2023.

The relationship between retinal fundus hemorrhage and the severity of coronary artery lesions remains unclear. This study aimed to explore the incidence of fundus hemorrhage in patients at high risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) and to examine its correlation with the SYNTAX score, a tool used to assess the complexity of coronary artery disease. This retrospective study consecutively enrolled patients undergoing coronary angiography (CAG) at Beijing Anzhen Hospital Hospital from June 2019 to January 2020.
