causes multi-system diseases in both nosocomial settings and a pre-disposed general population. The bacterium is not only desiccation-resistant but also notoriously resistant to multiple antibiotics and drugs of last resort including carbapenem, colistin, and sulbactam. The World Health Organization has categorized carbapenem-resistant at the top of its critical pathogen list in a bid to direct urgent countermeasure development. Several early-stage vaccines have shown a range of efficacies in healthy mice, but no vaccine candidates have advanced into clinical trials. Herein, we report our findings that both an ionizing γ-radiation-inactivated and a non-ionizing ultraviolet C-inactivated whole-cell vaccine candidate protects neutropenic mice from pulmonary challenge with virulent AB5075, a particularly pathogenic isolate. In addition, we demonstrate that a humoral response is sufficient for this protection the passive immunization of neutropenic mice.

Background/objectives: Urinary tract infections (UTI) represent a highly frequent and debilitating disease. Immunoactive prophylaxis, such as the polyvalent bacterial whole-cell-based sublingual vaccine MV140, have been developed to avoid antibiotic use. However, the effectiveness of this tool in the Portuguese population is still unknown.

This study investigated whole-cell oral cholera vaccine (kOCV) single-dose effectiveness and transmission dynamics of through 4 years of epidemiological and genomic surveillance in Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Whole genome sequencing was performed on clinical and water strains from 200 patient households and found annual bimodal peaks of clade AFR10e. 1154 diarrhea patients were enrolled with 342 culture confirmed cholera patients.

Based on the antigenic similarity between tumor cells and embryonic stem cells (ESCs), several recent studies report the use of intact murine ESCs or exosomes from murine ESCs as cancer vaccines. Since the capacity for self-renewal is one of the most specialized properties shared between ESCs and a subset of tumor cells, cancer stem cells (CSCs), we investigated whether the undifferentiated state of murine ESCs is essential for the prophylactic effectiveness of an ESC-based vaccine. The undifferentiated state of ES-D3, a murine ESC line, was essential for their anchorage-independent growth potential.

is an opportunistic fungal pathogen that is a continuous global health concern, especially for immunocompromised populations. The World Health Organization recognized as one of four critical fungal pathogens, thus emphasizing the need for increased research efforts and clinical resource expansion. Currently, there are no fungal vaccines available for clinical use.
