We investigated the effect of adding -anisaldehyde (AA) solvent to the ink containing poly[[2,60-4,8-di(5-ethylhexylthienyl)benzo[1,2-b:3,3-b]dithiophene][3-fluoro-2[(2-ethylhexyl)carbonyl]thieno[3,4-b]thiophenediyl]](PTB7-Th) and 3,9-bis(2-methylene-(3-(1,1-dicyanomethylene)-indanone))-5,5,11,11-tetrakis(4-hexylphenyl)-dithieno[2,3-d:20,30-d0]-s-indaceno[1,2-b:5,6-b0]-dithiophene(ITIC) on the morphology of the active layer. The present study focuses on determining the effect of the additive on the compositions at the surface of the PTB7-Th: ITIC composite and its morphology, forming one side of the interface of the blend with the MoO electrode, and the influence of the structural change on the performance of devices. Studies of device performance show that the addition of the additive AA leads to an improvement in device performance. Upon the addition of AA, the concentration of PTB7-Th at the surface of the bulk heterojunction (BHJ) increases, causing an increase in surface roughness of the surface of the BHJ. This finding contributes to an understanding of the interaction between the donor material and high work function electrode/interface material. The implications for the interface are discussed.

In this study, it is shown that an efficient organic optocoupler (OPC) can be fabricated using commercially available and solution-processable organic semiconductors. The transmitter is a single-active-layer organic light-emitting diode (OLED) made from a well-known polyparavinylene derivative, Super Yellow. The receiver is an organic light-emitting diode (OLSD) with a single active layer consisting of a mixture of the polymer donor PTB7-Th and the low-molecular-weight acceptor ITIC; the receiver operates without an applied reverse voltage.

Organic photodetectors (OPDs) have attracted tremendous interest due to their potential applications in wearable electronics. However, due to the nonideal contacts between the electrodes and organic semiconductors, OPDs still suffer from high dark current and slow frequency response. Herein, by inserting potassium aspartic acid (PAA) interlayers between ITO/metal oxides and the metal oxides/active layer, the shunts and hole injections are blocked and the energy levels of the electrodes are aligned.

We present the simple synthesis of a star-shape non-fullerene acceptor (NFA) for application in organic solar cells. This NFA possesses a D(A) structure in which the electron-donating core is an aza-triangulene unit and we report the first crystal structure for a star shape NFA based on this motive. We fully characterized this molecule's optoelectronic properties in solution and thin films, investigating its photovoltaic properties when blended with PTB7-Th as the electron donor component.

Organic-based photovoltaics are excellent candidates for renewable energy alternatives to fossil fuels due to their low weight, low manufacturing cost, and, in recent years, high efficiency, which is now above 18%. However, one cannot ignore the environmental price of the fabrication procedure due to the usage of toxic solvents and high-energy input equipment. In this work, we report on the enhancement of the power conversion efficiency non-fullerene organic solar cells by incorporating green synthesised Au-Ag nanoparticles, using onion bulb extract, into the hole transport layer poly (3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene)-poly (styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT: PSS) of Poly[4,8-bis(5-(2-ethylhexyl)thiophen-2-yl)benzo[1,2-b;4,5-b']dithiophene-2,6-diyl-alt-(4-(2-ethylhexyl)-3 fluorothieno[3,4-b]thiophene-)-2-carboxylate-2-6-diyl)]: 3,9-bis(2-methylene-(3-(1,1-dicyanomethylene)-indanone))-5,5,11,11-tetrakis(4-hexylphenyl)-dithieno[2,3-d:2',3'-d']-s-indaceno[1,2-b:5,6-b']dithiophene (PTB7-Th: ITIC) bulk-heterojunction organic solar cells.

Phase diagrams of ternary π-bonded polymer (PTB7-Th) solutions were constructed as a function of molecular weight, temperature, and electron acceptor species (ITIC, PCBM and PCBM). For this purpose, the Flory-Huggins lattice theory was employed with a constant χ interaction parameter, describing a binodal, spinodal, tie line, and critical point. Then, the morphologies of the blends composed of highly disordered PTB7-Th and crystallizable ITIC were investigated by atomic force microscopy.
