In this study, we aimed to elucidate the effects of temperature on the photoluminescence from ZnO-SiO nanocomposite and to describe the preparation of SiO-coated ZnO nanocrystals using a chemical precipitation method, as confirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and powder X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) techniques. Analyses using high-resolution transmission microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and electrophoretic light scattering (ELS) techniques showed that the new nanocomposite has an average size of 70 nm and 90% silica. Diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), photoluminescence (PL), and photoluminescence-excitation (PLE) measurements at different temperatures revealed two emission bands at 385 and 590 nm when the nanomaterials were excited at 325 nm. The UV and yellow emission bands were attributed to the radiative recombination and surface defects. The variable-temperature, time-resolved photoluminescence (VT-TRPL) measurements in the presence of SiO revealed the increase in the exciton lifetime values and the interplay of the thermally induced nonradiative recombination transfer of the excited-state population of the yellow emission via deep centers (DC). The results pave the way for more applications in photocatalysis and biomedical technology.

Introduction: A novel antifungal formulation combining zinc oxide nanoparticles and Whitfield's spirit solution (ZnO-WFs) was developed to enhance the treatment of superficial fungal foot infections.

Methods: This 8-week, randomized, double-blinded controlled trial compared the efficacy, safety, and cost-effectiveness of ZnO-WFs with those of Whitfield's spirit solution (WFs) alone and a zinc oxide nanoparticle solution (ZnOs). Seventy of the 84 enrolled patients completed the trial.

This study investigates the potential of zinc oxide (ZnO) and Ag-doped zinc oxide (Ag-ZnO) nanoparticles (NPs) (1, 3 and 5 wt%) electrospun into poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) based triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) to harness electrical energy from ambient mechanical vibrations. ZnO and Ag-ZnO NPs were developed using a co-precipitation method. 3 wt% Ag-ZnO doping was optimized to exhibit a higher β-crystalline phase in PVDF (PAZ3).

Piezoelectric catalysis possesses the potential to convert ocean wave energy into and holds broad prospects for extracting uranium from seawater. Herein, the Z-type ZnO@COF heterostructure composite with excellent piezoelectric properties was synthesized through in situ growth of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) on the surface of ZnO and used for efficient uranium extraction. The designed COFs shell enables ZnO with stability, abundant active sites and high-speed electron transport channels.

This study reports the development of a highly absorbent Chitosan (CS)/Tannic Acid (TA) sponge, synthesized via chemical cross-linking with Epichlorohydrin (ECH) and integrated with zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) as a novel hemostatic anti-infection agent. The chemical properties of the sponges were characterized using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and zeta potential measurements. Morphological and elemental analyses conducted through scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX) revealed a uniform distribution of ZnO NPs, with particle sizes below 20 nm.

Background And Aim: In dental clinics, disinfecting alginate impression materials is a critical practice to prevent cross-infection. Recently, zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) have been explored for their potential antimicrobial properties, making them promising additives for dental materials. This study investigates the antimicrobial activity of ZnO NPs incorporated into alginate impression materials and assesses the impact on material flow.
