ABCB1 belongs to a superfamily of membrane transporters that use ATP hydrolysis to efflux various endogenous compounds and drugs outside the cell. Cancer cells upregulate expression as an adaptive response to evade chemotherapy-mediated cell death. On the other hand, several reports highlight the role of the epigenetic regulation of expression. In fact, the promoter methylation of was found to be methylated in several tumor types, including gliomas, but its role as a biomarker is not fully established yet. Thus, the aim of this study was to analyze the methylation of the promoter in tumor tissues from 50 glioma patients to verify its incidence and to semi-quantitively detect methylation levels in order to establish its utility as a potential biomarker. The results of this study show a high interindividual variability in the methylation level of the samples derived from gliomas of different grades. Additionally, a positive correlation between methylation, the WHO tumor grade, and an wild-type status has been observed. Thus, methylation can be regarded as a potential diagnostic or prognostic biomarker for glioma patients, indicating more aggressive tumors.

Adenoid cystic carcinomas (AdCC) of salivary gland origin have long been categorized as fusion-defined carcinomas owing to the almost universal presence of the gene fusion MYB::NFIB, or less commonly MYBL1::NFIB. Sinonasal AdCC is an aggressive salivary gland malignancy with no effective systemic therapy. Therefore, it is urgent to search for potentially targetable genetic alterations associated with AdCC.

Objectives: Urinary steroid profiling after hydrolysis of conjugates is an emerging tool to differentiate aggressive adrenocortical carcinomas (ACC) from benign adrenocortical adenomas (ACA). However, the shortcomings of deconjugation are the lack of standardized and fully validated hydrolysis protocols and the loss of information about the originally conjugated form of the steroids. This study aimed to evaluate the quality of the deconjugation process and investigate novel diagnostic biomarkers in urine without enzymatic hydrolysis.

Oncocytic carcinoma is a rare malignant neoplasm of oncocytic cells, such cells being characterized by abundant granular eosinophilic cytoplasm, invasive growth, and pronounced cellular pleomorphism. It may arise de novo, or through malignant transformation of a pre-existing benign oncocytoma. Oncocytic carcinoma most commonly occurs in the salivary glands, with rare involvement of the ocular adnexa where it mainly affects caruncle, conjunctiva, and lacrimal sac, and only very arises in the lacrimal gland.

Pancreatoduodenectomy and distal pancreatectomy are standard treatments for various pancreatic pathologies. These procedures involve radical resection and a significant loss of pancreatic tissue, which can lead to exocrine and/or endocrine pancreatic insufficiency. In selected cases of benign tumors or those with low malignant potential, central pancreatectomy can be performed with acceptable morbidity and mortality rates.

CD204 is a distinct indicator for tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) in glioma. Evidence indicates that CD204-positive TAMs are involved in the aggressive behavior of various types of cancers. This study was conducted to develop a new and effective peptide-based vaccine for GBM, specifically targeting CD204.
