Article Synopsis
  • Chemotherapy significantly improves prognosis for colorectal cancer patients, but resistance to drugs like 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is a growing problem.
  • Research identified that nucleotide metabolism may play a key role in both cancer progression and drug resistance, leading to the development of a risk score model to predict patient outcomes.
  • The study found that the gene NDUFA4L2 enhances colon cancer cell growth and movement, contributing to resistance against 5-FU, highlighting its potential as a target for improving treatment strategies.

Local magnitude (M) scales have been developed for Egypt based on 14,453 normalized Wood-Anderson amplitudes from 1670 earthquakes. These events were recorded by at least four seismic stations, with hypocentral depths of less than 40 km and earthquake magnitudes ranging from 0.1 to 6.

This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of lasers at various wavelengths in treating medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) using biochemical, clinical scoring, micro CT analysis, and histopathological methods. The study follows the ARRIVE guidelines to ensure robust and transparent research. In our study, there were 6 groups, including one SHAM group, one CONTROL group, and four experimental groups, with 8 rats in each individual group.

The research study suggested using plasma-activated water (PAW) along with auxiliary technologies, such as micro/nanobubbles (MNB), ultraviolet (UV) photolysis, and ultrasonication (US), to increase the effectiveness of sterilization. By using Factorial Design of Experiments (DOE) techniques, the characteristics and optimal production that contributed to disinfecting pathogens were assessed. Analysis revealed that () infection rate was most significantly influenced by factors including duration of MNB, UV, and the interaction term between MNB*UV.

Am J Public Health

November 2024

Michael J. Armstrong is an associate professor of operations research, Brock University, St. Catharines, ON, Canada.

To estimate changes in medical cannabis patient activity after Canada's recreational cannabis legalization. I used linear regressions of interrupted times series models to analyze medical cannabis patient registrations per 10 000 residents, purchases per 100 registrations, and packages per purchase in Canada's 10 provinces between April 2017 and December 2022. I tested relationships between the recreational law's passage in June 2018, recreational sales starting in October 2018, and the arrival of edibles and vapes in December 2019.
