Merging polymer-supported asymmetric organocatalysis with continuous flow in a packed bed reactor has been used as the key, enantiodetermining step in a short synthesis of indoloquinolizidines. Using this approach, a highly enantioselective, solvent-free and rapid conjugate addition of dimethyl malonate to a diverse family of cinnamaldehydes in continuous flow, allowing the preparation of relevant oxodiesters in multigram amounts has been developed. The obtained Michael adducts have been used to complete an expedient diastereoselective synthesis of indoloquinolizidine cascade Pictet-Splengler cyclisation-lactamisation in continuous flow. The conversion of enantiopure Michael adducts into δ-lactones telescoped reduction/cyclisation in continuous flow has also been explored.

Strongly coordinating mediator enables single-step resource recovery from heavy metal-organic complexes in wastewater.

Nat Commun

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Pollution Control and Resource Reuse, Tongji University, Shanghai, 200092, China.

Heavy metals complexed with organic ligands are among the most critical carcinogens threatening global water safety. The challenge of efficiently and cost-effectively removing and recovering these metals has long eluded existing technologies. Here, we show a strategy of coordinating mediator-based electro-reduction (CMBER) for the single-step recovery of heavy metals from wastewater contaminated with heavy metal-organic complexes.

This paper presents progress made toward the overarching goal to adapt single-photon-counting microcalorimeters to magnetic fusion energy research and demonstrate the value of such measurements for fusion. Microcalorimeter spectrometers combine the best characteristics of x-ray instrumentation currently available on fusion devices: high spectral resolution similar to an x-ray crystal spectrometer and broad spectral coverage sufficient to measure impurity species from Be to W. As a proof-of-principle experiment, a NASA-built x-ray microcalorimeter spectrometer has been installed on the Madison Symmetric Torus (MST) at the Wisconsin Plasma Physics Laboratory.

Design and test of steam-injected continuous scrambled egg device.

Curr Res Food Sci

To solve the existing problems of low yield, uneven quality, and single form of industrially scrambled eggs, we have developed a continuous high-output steam scrambled egg device based on the principle of steam injected. By establishing calibration curves for egg, oil, and steam flow rates, determining the key parameters of the equipment, and simulating the heat transfer process between steam and egg by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), we created the device and verified its production performance. The results show that the capacity of this device can reach 104.

Mitochondria are semi-autonomous organelles containing their own DNA (mtDNA), which is replicated independently of nuclear DNA (nDNA). While cell cycle arrest halts nDNA replication, mtDNA replication continues. In , flow cytometry enables semi-quantitative estimation of mtDNA levels by measuring the difference in signals between cells lacking mtDNA and those containing mtDNA.

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) requiring continuous renal replacement therapy is common in critically ill patients. The ADVanced Organ Support (ADVOS) system is a novel hemodialysis machine that uses albumin enriched dialysate which allows the removal of protein-bound toxins and drugs. To date, data on antimicrobial removal under ADVOS has not yet been reported.
