To investigate the biogas generation characteristics of the organic matter in lignite, methanol extraction was conducted to obtain the soluble fraction and the residual of lignite, which were subsequently taken as the sole carbon source for biogas production by a methanogenic consortium. Afterward, the composition of compounds before and after the fermentation was characterized by UV-Vis, GC-MS, and HPLC-MS analysis. The results indicated that the methanogenic microorganisms could produce H2 and CO2 without accumulating CH4 by utilizing the extract, and the methane production of the residue was 18% larger than that of raw lignite, reaching 1.03 mmol/g. Moreover, the organic compounds in the methanol extract were degraded and their molecular weight was reduced. Compounds such as 1, 6-dimethyl-4-(2-methylethyl) naphthalene, 7-butyl-1-hexylnaphthalene, simonellite, and retene were completely degraded by microorganisms. In addition, both aromatic and non-aromatic metabolites produced in the biodegradation were detected, some of which may have a negative effect on the methanogenesis process. These results revealed the complexity of the interaction between coal and organism from another point of view.

Using a bioassay-guided fractionation approach, the most potent anti-psoriatic components of Aster squamatus herb, Aster chinensis stalks, and Aster chinensis flowers, cultivated in Egypt, were identified and evaluated against Imiquimod (IMQ)-induced psoriasis in female BALB/c mice and compared to standard drug, mometasone. The topical application of A. chinensis stalk methanolic extract exhibited the strongest anti-psoriatic effects against IMQ-induced psoriasis model, as evidenced by improvements in psoriasis area severity index (PASI) score, histopathological analysis, and spleen index.

Phthalates (PAEs), which are pollutants that most easily migrate from plastic packages to edible oils, have received increasing attention. In this work, a sample preconditioning method was proposed and explored, involving a single-step extraction using a methanol and ethyl hexanoate mixed solvent, followed by clean-up with a mixed absorbent of graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN) and -propyl ethylenediamine (PSA), for the determination of 18 PAEs in oil samples through GC-MS/MS analysis. The triazine ring structure and conjugated aromatic heterocyclic accumulation structure of g-CN and the amino-rich structure of PSA can provide hydrogen bonds, conjugated π-π interactions, and hydrophobic effects for the removal of interferences such as organic acids, aliphatic acids, and pigments.

Introduction: The polyol pathway is responsible for the metabolism of almost one-third of the total glucose in people with chronic diabetes. Moreover, it causes complications in organs that rely on aldose reductase (AR) as an enzyme. The purpose of this research was to examine the in vitro and in vivo effects of a flavonoid-rich ethyl acetate fraction of a methanolic extract of Ficus carica Lam.

Background: Cupressus sempervirens is one of the conifer plants, that is used as an antimicrobial, antioxidant, anthelminthic, and many other health purposes. Rhipicephalus annulatus is one of the hard tick genera affecting the production and health of domestic animals in Egypt. Extensive use of chemical acaricides in the management of ticks caused acaricide resistance, environmental contamination, residues in meat and milk, and harmful effects on non-target species.
