Drawing upon fieldwork data collected among young female bar-goers in China, we examine the gender politics manifested by their leisure activities and argue that these young women are pursuing individualism without feminism. By analyzing the act of bar hopping, we reveal the internal tension of individuation, which urges women to engage in gender labor in order to obtain preferential treatment regarding consumption and a competitive advantage in esthetic femininity. This indicates that the central axis of Chinese women's individualization is a hybrid of neoliberal individuals and essentialist gender roles. It encourages women to see themselves voluntarily as subordinate subjects in market transactions and feminized objects under male scrutiny. The pursuit of individualism without feminism prevents women from overcoming the highly gendered settings of bar scenarios, or imagining the female as a whole group with communal solidarity. The Chinese female individual manifests herself as a hostage of the collusion between the commodification of social life and a conservative gender regime. The case of China brings the individualization thesis out of its original compressed-modernity framework and indicates that East Asia's quest for modernity must address the compressed conditions of individualism and feminism simultaneously.

The sociodemographic makeup of the professoriate in health and healthcare has been shown to have direct implications for graduation rates among minoritized populations, diversity in healthcare, the prevalence of health equity scholarship, and population health broadly. Black women academics, who navigate higher education as members of two minoritized groups, need to be intentionally recruited and retained using tailored approaches. Given the historical and ongoing dearth of Black women faculty in health and healthcare, and the mounting literature on health equity highlighting the benefits of Black women representation in healthcare, I propose an approach to the recruitment and retention of Black women using a Black feminist theory.

Autoethnographic accounts of mental illness (MI) are sparse in academic scholarship, despite generating valuable insights into how MI can be experienced and coped with in real-life contexts. First-person accounts from men are especially lacking, possibly linked to historic trend for masculine stoicism stifling male MI discussions. Some scholarships explore video-gaming as a positive, escapist aid benefiting individuals experiencing major depressive disorder (MDD).

Objective: Despite anecdotal evidence highlighting the benefits of singing teacher involvement in voice rehabilitation for effective and sustainable biopsychosocial treatment of vocal injury, singing teachers working as singing voice rehabilitation specialists (SVRS) in the United Kingdom (UK) have often been criticized for working beyond their scope of practice. With limited empirical research into the role, concern and confusion has fueled challenges to its legitimacy. The lack of regulation raises questions around safeguarding, skills, and demarcation of roles within the multidiscipline team.

Introduction: Women at midlife have increased rates of harmful drinking in many high-income countries. This cohort grew up within permissive alcohol environments that encouraged women's consumption, linking it to success, femininity, and empowerment. This research drew on notions of 'structures of feeling' and 'affective atmospheres' to explore how women at midlife describe and make sense of alcohol and drinking within their lives.

Dementia is known to unequally affect women, whether as women living with dementia, or women who provide unwaged or paid care, yet dementia and long-term care ('LTC') research and policy often ignore gender. Using Australia as a case study and building on critical dementia, critical disability, and feminist scholarship, this discourse analysis study explored representations in the Australian Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety ('ACRC') Final Report of experiences of women with dementia, and women care partners of people with dementia, using long-term care. This paper argues gender remained an overlooked topic in relation to dementia in the ACRC Final Report.
