Single-atom catalysts (SACs) hold great promise for highly efficient heterogeneous catalysis, yet the practical applications require the development of high-density active sites with flexible geometric structures. The lack of understanding in the dynamic formation process of single atoms in the host framework has been plaguing the controllable synthesis of next generation SACs. Here using Co-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as a starting substrate, we fully elucidated the formation of high-density Pt single atoms with inter-site interactions in derived Co O host. The cation exchange process and dynamic evolution of Pt-Pt interactions, organic ligand cleavage and Pt-oxygen coordination formation during the pyrolysis process have been unambiguously interpreted by a series of in situ/ex situ spectroscopic measurements and theoretical computation. These findings would direct the synthesis of high-density SACs with metal-metal interactions, which demonstrate significantly enhanced structural flexibility and catalytic properties.

Photosynthetic microalgae are promising green cell factories for the sustainable production of high-value chemicals and biopharmaceuticals. The chloroplast organelle is being developed as a chassis for synthetic biology as it contains its own genome (the plastome) and some interesting advantages, such as high recombinant protein titers and a diverse and dynamic metabolism. However, chloroplast engineering is currently hampered by the lack of standardized cloning tools and Design-Build-Test-Learn workflows to ease genomic and metabolic engineering.

Background: Drafting for drag reduction is a tactic commonly employed by elite athletes of various sports. The strategy has been adopted by Kenyan runner Eliud Kipchoge on numerous marathon events in the past, including the 2018 and 2022 editions of the Berlin marathon (where Kipchoge set two official world records), as well as in two special attempts to break the 2 h mark for the distance, the Nike Breaking2 (2017) and the INEOS 1:59 Challenge (2019), where Kipchoge used an improved drafting formation to finish in 1:59:40, although that is not recognized as an official record.
Results: In this study, the drag of a realistic model of a male runner is calculated by computational fluid dynamics for a range of velocities.

The femtosecond dynamics of energy transfer from light-excited spirilloxanthin (Spx) to bacteriochlorophyll (BChl) a in the reaction centers (RCs) of purple photosynthetic bacteria Rhodospirillum rubrum was studied. According to crio-electron microscopy data, Spx is located near accessory BChl a in the B-branch of cofactors. Spx was excited by 25 fs laser pulses at 490 nm, and difference absorption spectra were recorded in the range 500-700 nm.

The problem of ground-level ozone (O) pollution has become a global environmental challenge with far-reaching impacts on public health and ecosystems. Effective control of ozone pollution still faces complex challenges from factors such as complex precursor interactions, variable meteorological conditions and atmospheric chemical processes. To address this problem, a convolutional neural network (CNN) model combining the improved particle swarm optimization (IPSO) algorithm and SHAP analysis, called SHAP-IPSO-CNN, is developed in this study, aiming to reveal the key factors affecting ground-level ozone pollution and their interaction mechanisms.

Blue carbon refers to organic carbon sequestered by oceanic and coastal ecosystems. This stock has gained global attention as a high organic carbon repository relative to other ecosystems. Within blue carbon ecosystems, tidally influenced wetlands alone store a disproportionately higher amount of organic carbon than other blue carbon systems.
