Bisattelited supernumary chromosomes, identified as inv dup(15)s, were detected at a prevalence of 8/1000 among institutionalized, mentally retarded (non-Down syndrome) males. This finding suggests that the inv dup(15) contributes significantly to the etiology of mental retardation among institutionalized individuals.

Compared to the general population, individuals with Down syndrome carry a much higher genetic risk of developing early onset Alzheimer's dementia. Background: Individuals with Down syndrome are an at-risk population for severe COVID-19 outcomes, due to genetic predispositions and comorbidities. The current study focused on differences between persons with and without Down syndrome regarding age and severity of disease.
