An unprecedented strategy for unlocking a new and efficient  functional group transfer protocol has been demonstrated to synthesize a variety of complex organic sulfoxides chemoselectively, starting from organic sulfides. The strategy of this new functional group transfer protocol is based on harnessing the potential of metalloradical-assisted intermolecular functional group transposition or 'InterGroupXfer' to replace highly sensitive and reactive high valent metal intermediates, [M=X] (X = O, NH).This sustainable functional group transfer strategy employs earth abundant iron catalyst and bench-stable and convenient-to-handle hydroxyl amine derived surrogate, operates under mild conditions in water or even under solvent free condition, exhibits broad functional group tolerance, as well as versatility of reaction scale  and proceeds without the use of any precious metal catalyst or additional oxidant.

Current processing techniques for harvesting DNA from osseous elements are destructive, and success rates vary widely. When skeletal elements are homogenized into a fine powder, endogenous DNA may be subjected to fragmentation, and the likelihood of introducing co-purified inhibitory substances to the sample increases. While a limited number of articles in the relevant literature have challenged the status quo of pulverization, powdering hard tissue samples before DNA isolation continues to be standard practice in the forensic and ancient DNA communities.

Department of Hematology and Oncology, University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center, Cleveland, OH; Case Comprehensive Cancer Center, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH.

Background: Despite therapeutic advances, multiple myeloma (MM) remains challenging to treat effectively. High-dose melphalan (Mel200) with autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) is the standard treatment for transplant-eligible patients. Reduced-dose melphalan (Mel140) is an alternative for older or frail patients, yet its efficacy data remain unclear.

Minoritized groups experience interpersonal, structural, and systemic marginalization that is also perpetuated within academic institutions. This marginalization produces barriers that exclude racial/ethnic minoritized groups within academic medicine from career opportunities and advancement. Racial/ethnic minoritized faculty are often expected to take on additional labor to serve the diversity needs of the program and/or institution that are often unrecognized or undervalued in the tenure or promotion process or detract from additional responsibilities.
