Herein, we introduced the versatility of free-base and zinc-metallated porphyrin (HP and ZnP, respectively) to combine with boron azadipyrromethene (azaBDP) NIR absorbing species, for extending their photophysical interest and covalently anchored onto graphene. In particular, the covalent functionalization of graphene with those HP-azaBDP and ZnP-azaBDP dyads ensured an invariable structure, in which both chromophores and graphene are in intimate contact, free of aggregations and impurities. Both HP-azaBDP and ZnP-azaBDP dyads were found to perform energy transfer processes between the chromophores, however, only ZnP-azaBDP confirmed additional charge separation between the chromophores yielding the ZnP˙-azaBDP˙ charge-separated state. On the other hand, graphene in (HP-azaBDP)-graphene and (ZnP-azaBDP)-graphene hybrids was found to act as an electron donor, yielding (HP-azaBDP˙)-graphene˙ and (ZnP-azaBDP˙)-graphene˙ charge-separated states at an ultrafast timescale. The creation of such donor-acceptor systems, featuring graphene as an electron donor and Vis-to-NIR electron-acceptor dyads, expands their utility when considered in optoelectronic applications.

Cofacial electron donor-acceptor dyads exhibiting through-space charge-transfer (TSCT) characteristics are widely employed in the development of optoelectronic functional materials. The flexible molecular frameworks between the electron donor and acceptor components allow dynamic modulation of electronic coupling, influenced by excited-state structural relaxation or intermolecular interactions, thereby affecting the charge-transfer (CT) dynamics and the emission properties of TSCT states. In this work, we examine the TSCT dynamic processes of two electron donor-acceptor dyads, CzPhNI and CzPhPI formed by ortho-substitution of phenyl linkage with V-shaped flexible TSCT structures using carbazole as donor and naphthalimide or phthalimide as acceptor.

Context: Inspired by the newly synthesized endohedral fullerene T CH@C (1) and based on extensive density functional theory calculations, we predict herein a series of endohedral borafullerenes C CH@BC (4), T BH@BC (5), C HO@BC (6), C NH@BC (7), and T C@BC (8) which possess a BC (3) shell isovalent with C, with the neutral D C@BC (9) obtained from C@BC (8) by symmetric C─B substitutions. Detailed adaptive natural density partitioning (AdNDP) bonding analyses and iso-chemical shielding surfaces (ICSSs) calculations indicate that these core-shell species are spherically aromatic in nature, rendering high stability to the systems. More interestingly, based on the calculated effective donor-acceptor interaction between LP(O) → LV(B@BC) in HO@BC (6), we propose the concept of boron bond (BB) in chemistry which is defined as the in-phase orbital overlap between an electronegative atom A as lone-pair (LP) donor and an electron-deficient boron atom with a lone vacant (LV) orbital as LP acceptor.

Unraveling the electronic structure of metal complexes can bring various catalytic possibilities for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). However, the electronic effect of metal and ligands modulating and switching the reaction center for HER has yet to be comprehensively analyzed. Herein, we report nickel selenoether electrocatalysts which show tunable reaction centers (nickel or ligand) for HER using mild weak acetic acid in less deprotonating DMF solvent.

Recent advancements in C-S bond formation electron donor-acceptor (EDA) complex photoactivation have been remarkable. EDA complexes, which are composed of electron donors and acceptors, facilitate C-S bond construction under mild conditions through single-electron transfer events upon visible light irradiation. This review highlights the utilization of various sulfur-containing substrates, including diacetoxybenzenesulfonyl (DABSO), sulfonic acids, sodium sulfinates, sulfonyl chlorides, and thiophenols, in EDA-promoted sulfonylation and thiolation reactions, covering the works published since 2017 to date.

In this work, we show two synthetic routes to substitute the N position of mesoionic imines (MIIs). By Buchwald-Hartwig amination, 5-amino-1,2,3-triazoles can be arylated at the said position, showing the versatility of amino-triazoles as building blocks for MIIs. The reaction of MIIs with electrophiles (MeI, fluoro-arenes) highlights the nucleophilic nature of MIIs as even at room temperature aromatic C-F bonds can be activated with MIIs.
