From the viscosity dependence of the 31P NMR signals, the diffusion coefficients DT of phospholipid molecules in the surface monolayer of HDL, LDL and VLDL have been determined. DT for HDL3 and HDL2 are found to be 2.3 X 10(-8) cm2/s and 1.8 X 10(-8) cm2/s, respectively. These values are similar to values reported for diffusion of phospholipid molecules in phospholipid bilayers above the gel to liquid crystalline phase transition temperature. Viscosity dependence of [16,16,16-2H3]phosphatidylcholine incorporated into HDL2 yielded a value similar to that determined by 31P (DT = 1.9 X 10(-8) cm2/s). Slower diffusion coefficients were measured for LDL2 and VLDL. VLDL had a value DT = 9.1 X 10(-9) cm2/s. The diffusion coefficient for LDL2 was 1.4 X 10(-9) cm2/s. Thus, diffusion of phospholipids in LDL2 is a full order of magnitude slower at 25 degrees C than diffusion of phospholipids in the HDLs.

A hyper-branched sulfonated polyimide (-PI) was synthesized successfully and composited with polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) to achieve ultra-high methanol-permeation resistive for direct methanol fuel cell application. The optimized -PI-PVDF composite membrane exhibited methanol resistivity low to 1.80 × 10 cm²/s, two orders of magnitude lower than the value of the commercial Nafion 117 membrane (60 × 10 cm²/s).

All-inorganic Cs4PbBr6 perovskite nanohexagons, pre-synthesized by a room temperature co-precipitation method, have been electrochemically investigated in a conventional aqueous electrolyte for potential application as an anode material in Li-ion batteries. The nanohexagons were uniformly deposited on ITO precoated glass substrate and subsequently annealed at ambient air to form a mechanically stable perovskite layer. These perovskite layers showed excellent performance during continuous Li-ion intercalation/deintercalation scans in an aqueous electrolyte, exhibiting a diffusion coefficient of 7.

Water loss at normal enamel histological points during air drying at room temperature.

J Microsc

June 2013

Master Program in Dentistry, Health Sciences Center, Federal University of Paraiba, Cidade Universitária, João Pessoa, Paraiba, Brazil.

This in vitro study aimed to quantify water loss at histological points in ground sections of normal enamel during air drying at room temperature (25°C) and relative humidity of 50%. From each of 10 ground sections of erupted permanent human normal enamel, three histological points (n = 30) located at 100, 300 and 500 μm from enamel surface and along a transversal following prisms paths were characterized regarding the mineral, organic and water volumes. Water loss during air drying was from 0 to 48 h.

Sorption of water, ethanol or ethanol/water solutions by light-cured dental dimethacrylate resins.

Dent Mater

October 2011

Laboratory of Organic Chemical Technology, Department of Chemistry, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, Greece.

Objectives: This work is concerned with the study of the sorption and desorption process of water, ethanol or ethanol/water solution 50% (v/v) or 75% (v/v) by the dental resins prepared by light curing of Bis-GMA, Bis-EMA, UDMA, TEGDMA or D₃MA.

Methods: A thin resin disc is placed in a bath of time to obtain the sorption curve m(t)=f(t). Then the liquid is desorbed until a constant mass for the disc is reached and the desorption curve is recorded.
