An acetate bridged tetranuclear copper(II) complex, [Cu4L2(μ2-η1:η1-CH3COO)6(CH3OH)2] (1), and a chloride, phenolate and azide co-bridged tetranuclear copper(II) complex, [Cu4L2Cl2(μ-Cl)2(μ1,1-N3)2]2CH3OH (2), where L is the deprotonated form of the Schiff base 5-bromo-2-((2-(2-hydroxyethylamino)ethylimino)methyl)phenol (HL), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and UV spectra, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Single crystal X-ray analysis revealed that the Cu atoms in both complexes are in square pyramidal geometry. In complex 1, two [CuL] units and [Cu2(μ2-η1:η1-CH3COO)4] core are linked through two acetate ligands. In complex 2, [Cu2LCl(μ-Cl)] units are linked together by two end-on azido ligands. The Schiff base ligand coordinates to the Cu atoms through four N and O donor atoms. The molecules of both complexes are linked through hydrogen bonds to generate three dimensional networks. The catalytic property of the complexes for epoxidation reactions of some alkenes was studied using tert-butylhydroperoxide as the terminal oxidant under mild conditions in acetonitrile.

Cage-catenanes are chemical constructs where two or more cage-like molecules or assemblies are mechanically interlocked together. We report a new class of cage-catenanes where dimeric metal-organic cage-catenanes are linked into larger assemblies through additional bridging metal chloride links. These crystalline materials are obtained from the reaction of tris(nicotinoyl)cyclotriguaiacylene (L1) with Cu(II) salts, and all feature a tetramer of cages where two {Cu(L1)(X)} cages (X=anion) are mechanically interlocked, and link to each other and to another {Cu(L1)(X)} cage-catenane through a planar, linear tetranuclear {Cu(μ-Cl)Cl} cluster.

A new tetranuclear copper(II) complex [Cu4L2(N3)2(CH3OH)2](NO3)2·4CH3OH (1) and a new trinuclear zinc(II) complex [Zn3L2(CH3COO)2] (2) have been prepared from the bis-Schiff base N,N'-bis(4-bromosalicylidene)-1,3-propanediamine (H2L) with copper nitrate and zinc acetate, respectively, in the presence of sodium azide. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy. Molecular structures of both complexes were confirmed by single crystal X-ray determination.

Herein, we present a dark-green crystalline tetranuclear Cu(II) Schiff base complex {C1 = [CuL](ClO)(DMF)(HO)} using a N,N,O donor ligand (HL), namely 2-(((2-hydroxypropyl)imino)methyl)-6-methoxyphenol. Spectro-photometrical investigation on the β-lactamase-like activity of this coordinately saturated system revealed its catalytic inefficiency towards hydrolysis of nitrocefin as a model substrate. This complex has attracted significant interest as a promising photo-catalyst owing to its narrow band gap (2.

Three coordination compounds from the reaction of copper(II) bromide with the flexible bis-tetrazole organosulfur ligand, 1,2-bis(1-methyl-1-tetrazole-5-ylthio)ethane (bmtte) have been isolated and characterised. The identification of polymeric 2∞CuBr(bmtte) (1), trinuclear [CuBr(bmtte)] (2) and tetranuclear [CuBr(bmtte)] (3) compounds shows that the reaction conditions have a significant influence on the structure of the complexes formed. Moreover, two polymorphs of the 2D Cu(II)-coordination polymer 1 have been isolated and these crystallise in the monoclinic 2/ (1m) and the triclinic 1̄ (1t) space groups.

The self-assembly of a carboxylate-based dinucleating ligand, ,'-bis[2-carboxybenzomethyl]-,'-bis[2-pyridylmethyl]-1,3-diaminopropan-2-ol (Hcpdp), and copper(II) ions in the presence of various exogenous ancillary ligands results in the formation of the new dinuclear complex [Cu(cpdp)(μ-Hisophth)]·2Hisophth·21HO (), trinuclear complex [Cu(Hcpdp)(Cl)] (), and tetranuclear complex [Cu(cpdp)(μ-Hphth)(μ-phth)(piconol)(Cl)]·3HO () (Hphth = phthalic acid; Hisophth = isophthalic acid; piconol = 2-pyridinemethanol; Cl = chloride). In methanol-water, the reaction of Hcpdp with CuCl·2HO at room temperature leads to the formation of . On the other hand, and have been obtained by carrying out the reaction of Hcpdp with CuCl·2HO/-CH(CONa) and CuCl·2HO/-CH(CONa)/piconol, respectively, in methanol-water in the presence of NaOH at ambient temperature.
