Published: October 2022

A method for the regiodivergent aminooxygenation of aryl olefins under electrophotocatalytic conditions is described. The procedure employs a trisaminocyclopropenium (TAC) ion catalyst with visible light irradiation under a controlled electrochemical potential to convert aryl olefins to the corresponding oxazolines with high chemo- and diastereoselectivity. With the judicious choice between two inexpensive and abundant reagents, namely water and urethane, either 2-amino-1-ol or 1-amino-2-ol derivatives could be prepared from the same substrate. This method is amenable to multigram synthesis of the oxazoline products with low catalyst loadings.

Traditionally, α-olefins have been regarded as non-homopolymerizable substrates in textbook examples. However, they have the ability to copolymerize with sulfur dioxide, leading to the creation of alternating copolymers. These commodity poly(olefin sulfone)s exhibite a wide array of applications.

DNDMH enabled C(sp)-H nitration of aryl alkenes.

C(sp)-H bond nitration provides facile access to nitro compounds that are inaccessible through traditional nitration pathways. This work describes a C(sp)-H bond nitration of aryl alkenes using DNDMH, a nitration reagent developed previously in our lab. Notably, this novel nitration process presents excellent regioselectivity and chemoselectivity between C(sp)-H nitration and C(sp)-H nitration.

Visible-Light-Driven Carboxylative 1,2-Difunctionalization of C=C Bonds with Tetrabutylammonium Oxalate.

Herein, we report a visible-light-induced charge-transfer-complex-enabled dicarboxylation and deuterocarboxylation of C=C bonds with oxalate as a masked CO source under catalyst-free conditions. In this reaction, we disclosed the first example that the tetrabutylammonium oxalate could be able to aggregate with aryl substrates via π-cation interactions to form the charge transfer complexes, which subsequently triggers the single electron transfer from the oxalic dianion to the ammonium countercation under irradiation of 450 nm bule LEDs, releasing CO and CO radical anions. Diverse alkenes, dienes, trienes, and indoles, including challenging trisubstituted olefins, underwent dicarboxylation and anti-Markovnikov deuterocarboxylation with high selectivity to access valuable 1,2- and 1,4-dicarboxylic acids as well as indoline-derived diacids and β-deuterocarboxylic acids under mild conditions.

Stereocontrolled construction of tetrasubstituted olefins has been an attractive issue yet remains challenging for synthetic chemists. In this manuscript, alkynyl selenides, when treated with ArBCl, are subject to an exclusive 1,1-carboboration, affording tetrasubstituted alkenes with excellent levels of E-selectivity. Detailed mechanistic studies, supported by DFT calculations, elucidates the role of selenium in this 1,1-addition process.

Revealing the roles of solar withering and shaking processes on oolong tea manufacturing from transcriptome and volatile profile analysis.

Solar and indoor withering in the manufacturing process of semi-fermented oolong tea are crucial for aroma formation. While the processes have been established through accumulated experience, the underlying mechanisms remain largely unknown. This study identified pairs of gene and volatile organic compound (VOC) that were significantly correlated and up-regulated during solar withering and the first shaking, including lipoxygenase 8 (LOX8) with 3-hexenyl iso-butyrate, terpene synthase 2 (TPS2) with β-ocimene and linalool, as well as tryptophan synthase β-subunit 2 (TSB2) with indole.
