Background: In the intensive care unit (ICU), many patients are unable to communicate their pain through self-reporting or behaviors due to their critical care condition, mechanical ventilation, and medication (eg, heavily sedated or chemically paralyzed). Therefore, alternative pain assessment methods are urgently needed for this vulnerable patient population. The Nociception Level (NOL) index is a multiparameter technology initially developed for the monitoring of nociception and related pain in anesthetized patients, and its use in the ICU is new.

Mechanical circulatory support (MCS) implantation represents a potentially life-saving intervention, often serving as a bridge to heart transplantation (HTx). However, complications from prior interventions, in patients receiving MCS due to STEMI-CS, may present additional challenges to successful HTx candidacy.

Background/objectives: Lauric acid (LA), a medium-chain fatty acid, is a promising drug for asthma treatment. This study evaluated the toxicity of repeated doses and the effect of LA on pulmonary ventilation and tracheal reactivity in asthmatic Wistar rats and identified possible molecular targets of LA action .
Methods: The rats were divided into control (CG) and LA-treated groups at 100 mg/kg (AL100G) for toxicity analysis.
